THE POWER OF MUSIC

January 18, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

Again–last night I was reminded of the power of music. Bro. Shawn Drewett, from Alexandria, LA and some of our folks provided the music and it was simply an awesome evening. How anyone could intentionally miss something like this is beyond me–but, that’s their problem not mine and I don’t care to turn this blessing into a gripe session. I’ll save that for another time. So, back to the blessing.

As the music flowed you could see the difference on the faces of the people. There were times of laughter and of tears. It was like a spigot to a fountain of joy had been opened and everyone drank deeply. We heard old songs and new songs, fast songs and slow songs, and all of them ministered to our hearts. It reminded me again of the powerful force of music.

Best of all ,the evening ended with a precious soul being saved. After many months of preaching, teaching, and praying she received Christ as her Lord and Savior. I was immediately reminded of the first time over a year ago that someone mentioned her in prayer. God answered and we rejoiced.

If you’re having a bad day and feeling down and out, let me make a suggestion. I’ve done it myself and it works. Take a song book and start thumbing through the pages. When you come to a song you recognize stop and sing it to yourself. Doing this will bring you face to face with glorious truths that will cheer your heart. Nothing lifts your spirit like getting your focus on the goodness and greatness of God, and music is a wonderful vehicle for doing that. Setting the truth to music has a way of helping it stick in your mind. You know what I mean–you get a tune in your head and find yourself thinking about it all week long. You’re going to think about something–if you don’t fill your mind with good things Satan will fill it with bad stuff. Paul tells us that if we are to enjoy the peace of God we must think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report. Next to memorizing God’s Word, singing is the best way to do that. And it will have a tremendous impact on your life. So grab the old hymn book, sit down a spell, and sing your blues away. Think about it!

GOOD MAN = GOOD DAD

June 15, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

No man is fit to be a husband who is not a good man. He need not be great, nor rich, nor brilliant, nor clever, but he must be good, or he is not worthy to take a gentle, trusting woman’s tender life into his keeping. Of course he must love his wife; without love there is no real marriage, and ceremony and ring and vows and prayer are only empty formalities. He must love his wife- – -. The world has read and heard quite enough moralizing about a wife’s duty to be always winning and attractive, retaining the charm of girlhood amid all cares, toils, and sorrows. Of course; but is a husband under less obligation to love his wife and always to be lover-like? This is a good rule, which should work both ways.

But affectionateness, however desirable, is not all that is needed in a husband who would do his full share in happy home making. Life is not all sentiment. We cannot live on ambrosia. Happiness must have a very practical basis. A good husband must be a man. He must be a good man-manly, true, worthy, brave, generous, a man whom a noble woman can respect and honor all the days of her life. He must be a sober man; no man who comes home under the influence of intoxicating drink, even occasionally only, is going to do quite his share in making happiness for the woman who has trusted her all to him. He must be a man of pure, unblemished life, whose character is above suspicion, whose name will always be an honor and a pride in his own home. The husband has a great deal to do with the question of home happiness.–J. R. Miller

BEWARE OF TERRORIST GROUPS IN CHURCH

January 16, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

Latest news reports are that five terrorist cell groups have been
operating in many of our churches. They have been identified as: Bin
Sleepin, Bin Arguin, Bin Fightin, Bin Complainin, and Bin Missin.

Their leader, Lucifer Bin Workin, trained these groups to destroy the
Body of Christ. The plan is to come into the church disguised as
Christians and to work within the church to discourage, disrupt, and
destroy.

However, there have been reports of a sixth group. A tiny cell known by
the name Bin Prayin is actually the only effective counter terrorism
force in the church. Unlike other terrorist cells, the Bin Prayin team
does not blend in with whoever and whatever comes along.

Bin Prayin does whatever is needed to uplift and encourage the Body of
Christ. We have noticed that the Bin Prayin cell group has different
characteristics than the others. They have Bin Watchin, Bin Waitin, Bin
Fastin, and Bin Longin for their Master, Jesus Christ to return. (AUTHOR UNKNOWN)

DAILY STRENGTH

June 14, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“As thy days, so shall thy strength be” Deuteronomy 33:25

NO man can possibly tell what is before him: but our God knoweth, and He has promised His people strength proportioned to their trials. We should not be anxious, for with the trial comes the strength. Our troubles are very generally to be numbered amongst our mercies. Temporal prosperity without a special blessing from God, will prove to be a curse; and it always brings a solemn responsibility with it. We have always found our God faithful; He always has given strength according to the day; and why should we now doubt? We may look forward and suppose the worst, and then say, “I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my STRENGTH and my song; He also is become my salvation.” We go from strength to strength, and every true believer shall appear in Zion before God. He will perfect that which concerneth us, but will never forsake the work of His own hands. Let us then expect the Lord to give WHEN we want, AS we want, ALL we want; let us believe that our strength will be equal to our burden, to our day. The promise is plain, it is positive, it is sure, and our God is faithful.

God is love, and will not leave you,
When you most His kindness need;
God is true, nor can deceive you,
Though your faith be weak indeed. —James Smith

LIVING LIKE YOU’RE LEAVING

January 15, 2010 By Pastor David Stone

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom in the grave, whither thou goest.–Ecc. 9:10 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.–Col.3:23-24   For many years I have stood before grieving families at funerals and said,”We should be living like we’re leaving”. We need to think about that, because we’re all leaving (Heb. 9:27) and it might be sooner than we think!   Country singer, Tim McGraw had this in mind when he sang,”Live Like You Were Dying”. The chorus says: “I went skydiving  I went rocky mountain climbing.  I went two point seven seconds on a bull named Fu Ma Shu.  And I loved deeper,  And I spoke sweeter,  And I gave forgiveness I’d been denyin’  And he said some day I hope you get the chance  To live like you were dyin'”.   You might not want to go “skydiving” or “rocky mountain climbing”, but you need to think about the theme of that song. We are dying–it’s just a matter of time! So then, how should we live? Peter addresses this subject in 2 Peter 3:11. He speaks of a bitter day and a better day, and he asked this question-“Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness—?” That’s a question we need to consider. To live like we are leaving, sinners must be reconcilied to God and saints need to be ready. To live like we’re leaving we must be– -sure of our salvation -seperated in our living -sincere in our loving -stedfast in our serving -serious in our witnessing -silent in our complaining We all have more than we deserve and, if we are truly living like we are leaving, the best is yet to come. The shortness of life and the seriousness of our accountability to God should motivate us to do our best at doing what is best. In other words, we should do what is right and do it right. And we should do it right now–while we can.   The old invitation hymn,”Softly and Tenderly” says: “Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing, Passing from you and from me; Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming, Coming for you and for me.”   We need to think about that. We get just one chance to do what we should–we better do it right! Sooner than you think, your moment under the sun will be over. In light of that fact, Moses said,”So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”(Psalm 90:12). THINK ABOUT IT!
