IF MOTHERS WROTE THE BIBLE

May 8, 2022 By Pastor David Stone

If Mothers Wrote the Bible

Did you ever think we’re missing part of the Bible stories by just reading
the facts? Here are some additions of lines that their MOTHERS might have
said . . .

David! I told you not to play in the house with that sling! Go practice your
harp. We pay good money for those lessons!

Samson! Get your hand out of that lion. You don’t know where it’s been!

Abraham! Stop wandering around the countryside and get home for supper!

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego! I told you never to play with fire!

Noah! No, you can’t keep them! I told you, don’t bring home any more strays!

Gideon! Have you been hiding in that wine press again? Look at your clothes!

James and John! No more burping contests at the dinner table, please. People
are going to call you the sons of thunder!

Judas! Have you been in my purse again?

Cain! Get off your brother! You’re going to kill him some day!

MORNING MANNA        5-8-22

MOTHER’S DAY
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”- Prov. 31:10

It’s really useless–not even Mr. Webster can capture the essence of motherhood. If we used nothing but the dictionary to define “mother” we would get a very incomplete picture. Being a mother involves much more than giving birth to a child, although that in itself is no minor matter. It is with much discomfort and great pain that she brings her child into this world—not something everyone would enjoy, but she does. Mothers, in fact, welcome their children into the world with a radiate joy that seems impossible considering what they went through. Now, that seems like contribution enough, but her work has just begun.

Although she has only two hands and feet, two ears and eyes, and a limited amount of physical strength, like everybody else, she has much more to do than most. Mothers have a vast array of duties to fulfill, yet she has only 24 hours in a day like everyone else. How she is able to get so much done is a mystery. Some would call it a miracle.

In spite of her best planning, which she is very good at, unexpected things happen. Often it is in the middle of the night, while others are sleeping and she is exhausted, yet she responds without a second thought. At other times, day and night, it is everything from trips to school to the emergency room to visits at the hospital. All this mind you is in addition to her regular chores. Only she could give you that list because the rest of us never really see all that she does–but we would quickly notice it if she didn’t.

Both her husband and children reap the benefits of her labor, but they can’t possibly understand all she does. Only God is aware of all she has endured and accomplished, and He is keeping close records! You and I could never fully repay her, although we usually could do much better than we do,but God can and will. Dear mother fret not because you don’t get the attention, assistance and appreciation you deserve, your labor is not in vain!

Your day, the real Mother’s Day, will come and you will finally be fully recognized and rewarded for all you’ve done. Until then I pray you will find God’s grace sufficient to see you through the toughest job on earth–the ministry of a mother. Not until you stand before Christ will you receive the fullness of joy for a job well done. And we will all sing together, “It was worth it all!”. Think about it!

 HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

God bless you, Bro. Stone

PRECIOUS PROMISES

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”- 2 Pet. 1:4

This verse is important, informational, and inspirational. To escape “the corruption that is in the world” is wonderful, but to be “partakers of the divine nature” is even more glorious. It staggers the mind to think about it. It’s something that is far beyond the reach of man’s natural abilities. It is possible because the great God “that cannot lie”(Titus 1:2) has given us “exceeding great and precious promises.”

Although we are weak and helpless,”his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue”(2 Peter 1:3). God’s children are not short-changed in any sense whatsoever! Notice, he said,”all things”. Everything we need for “life and godliness” is freely supplied by the grace of God. We need only claim what He has already given.

Seeing that all this is true, how can you say that the Bible is a boring book or that you don’t have time to read it? I urge you today to plunge into its depths, discover what He has promised, and claim what He has provided. Do this and you will find that for every need there is a promise. Search for them like they were precious jewels. In doing so you will discover that these gems of grace are exactly what you need. – HDS

GROANING WITH GRIEF

“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travileth in pain together until now.”-Romans 8:22

We are constantly bombarded with bad news, from the media and contact with others. We live in perilous times. Some folks would have us believe that the planet is on the verge of total destruction. That kind of talk gets depressing. So, what are the facts?

The Bible tells us “the whole creation groaneth and travileth in pain”. This suffering includes all of creation. Even God’s children are not exempt. We all suffer. Life is tough for everyone. Right now some of you feel you are drowning in a sea of sorrow. You suffer to such an extent that you wonder if you can make it through another day.

So, what is the cause of all this? In a word it is “sin”. We live in a fallen world that has been affected by sin, consequently all of creation suffers and we groan. Oh how we groan!

The good news is that it won’t always be this way. Although it is bitter now, there is a better day coming. Our grief will give way to glory, burdens to blessings, drudgery to delight, and pain to pleasure. Paul tells us our afflictions are “but for a moment” and “worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” Hang on Christian—the best is yet to come!

But can the future blessings outweigh the present burdens? Indeed they can when you are talking about what God provides. When we stand before the Lord we will have no complaints. Our reward will be more than ample to satisfy us forever. It is this hope that helps us get through the tough times.

For every need God has the answer.

FINISHING WELL
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”—2 Timothy 4:7-8

“The older I get the more I appreciate what A. W. Tozer wrote many years ago in light of this verse. He said:

For years I have made a practice of writing many of my earnest prayers to God in a little book–a book now well worn. I still turn often to the petitions I recorded in that book. I remind God often of what my prayers have been.

One prayer in the book–and God knows it well by this time, for I pray it often–goes like this:

Oh God, Let me die rather than to go on day by day living wrong. I do not want to become a careless, fleshly old man. I want to be right so that I can die right. Lord, I do not want my life to be extended if it would mean that I should cease to live right and fail in my mission to glorify You all of my days!…

As you will recall from Second Kings 20, the Lord gave Hezekiah a 15-year extension of life. Restored to health and vigor, Hezekiah disgraced himself and dishonored God before he died and was buried.

I would not want an extra 15 years in which to backslide and dishonor my Lord. I would rather go home right now than to live on–if living on was to be a waste of God’s time and my own! Jesus Is Victor!

Please, Father, help me to finish well. Amen.”
