SHOCKING  NEWS

May 3, 2022 By Pastor David Stone

SHOCKING NEWS

FROM WORLD NEWS

“Christians are being encouraged to speak out about their faith after a new survey found fewer people in the UK know someone who identifies as Christian.

As part of the Talking Jesus report commissioned by five Christian organisations, more than 3,000 people were surveyed and the findings will be used to help leaders grow the Church and adapt mission strategies.

The research is conducted every five years, although the previous one was seven years ago because of the pandemic.  In 2015 68 per cent of non-Christians in the UK said they knew someone who was an active or practising Christian, in 2022 that had fallen to 53 per cent.”

50 years ago, I said, if you want to know where America is headed, watch Europe. Who would have ever dreamed that it would be that bad there — where so many great preachers preached. Without a great move of God it could be that bad here. – Bro. Stone

OUR COUNSELLOR

“Is thy Counsellor perished?” Micah 4:9

The Lord’s people need counsel, and Jesus is given to them as a COUNSELLOR. He is exactly suited to their needs, being possessed of infinite wisdom, unbounded benevolence, great experience, and high honour. He never lost a cause. He counsels freely, cheerfully, and successfully. He turns the counsel of all our foes into foolishness. But though we have this Wonderful Counsellor, we neglect to consult, employ or trust Him; and it may often be demanded of us, “Is thy Counsellor perished?” If not, why this perplexity? Why these mistakes? Why those fears and groans, and forebodings? Why this running to creatures for advice and succour? Beloved, let us stand reproved; we have walked in our own counsels, we have not waited for His counsel, we have neglected and forgotten Jesus in His office. Let us in future never act without His counsel, never employ men to His dishonour, never listen to Satan when he would persuade us not to apply to, trust in, and expect advice from Jesus as our COUNSELLOR. He says, “I will counsel thee, Mine eye shall be upon thee.”

Lord, be my Counsellor,

My Pattern, and my Guide;

And through this desert land,

Still keep me near Thy side;

O let my feet ne’er run astray

Nor rove, nor seek the crooked way. ( James Smith. 1840)

WAY WE FEAR

And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? – Mark 4:37-40

When the disciples frantically woke Jesus who was sleeping through the massive storm that threatened to sink their ship, they were not dealing with an imaginary or theoretical problem. The wind and the waves were very real. The water that was filling the boat faster than they could bail it out was real. Many of them had spent most of their lives on the Sea of Galilee as fishermen, and they knew the difference between a small storm and a serious tempest.

Yet despite the real danger of the storm, after He calmed it, Jesus rebuked them for their lack of faith. He did not question their nautical judgment or disagree that the situation was serious. Instead, He questioned their lack of faith. Faith is never dependent on circumstances. Faith believes what God has said, no matter how things look. Faith recognizes that God is still in control, even in the worst of storms.

If we are walking in faith, we will not walk in fear. “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” (Psalm 118:6). Faith is not the belief that nothing will ever go wrong, but rather the belief that God is for us, and He will never allow us to endure something that He cannot ultimately use for our good and His glory. With such faith, we will not fear. Fear always reveals that there is a lack of faith somewhere in our lives. ( Copied)

CHRIST AND I ARE FRIENDS

“Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” – John 15:15

It is no wonder that we love to sing “What a Friend we have in Jesus”. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. The following comments by J. R. Miller says it well:

For myself, after all my years of teaching and helping others, and all my experiences as a Christian, my whole creed is summed up into one little sentence, “Christ and I are friends!” No friend in all the world is so near to me as He is. I trust Him, I love Him. I take everything to Him. I lay every burden upon Him. I go to Him for wisdom, for help, for the love I need in my own heart. He is everything to me as Friend.

Christ is my personal Friend. He is my dearest, truest, strongest and best Friend!

Then for myself, my whole duty is summed up in being a friend of Christ’s. He says, “You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.” This includes all Scripture commands.

In telling you this, I want to help you to understand that the essential thing in the Christian life is knowing Christ, trusting Him, loving Him, following Him, having      Christ for your Friend — and being His friend.

The secret of a beautiful life is living in unbroken fellowship with Christ, under the influence of His presence, and the inspiration of His love and grace.

CHRIST-LIKE LOVE

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.”- Philippians 2:5-7

Jesus stepped out of Heaven and went from sovereignty to slavery. He humbled Himself. He became obedient. Satan, in contrast, in his pride said, “I will ascend. I will be like the Most High.” He thought, “I’m going up, up, up, up.” But God said, “No, you’re going down, down, down, down, down.” Jesus stepped out of glory and humbled Himself. It is for this reason the Bible says, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow” (Philippians 2:9-10).

Many of us fight for reputation. Jesus laid aside His reputation. We like to talk about how we came from nothing to something. Every now and then, you’ll have an evangelist who will travel from place to place. Maybe God saved him in prison and his message is, “From the Prison to the Pulpit.” I’m glad for that, but Jesus came from something and made Himself of no reputation for our sake.

  • How does it affect you to remember that Jesus made Himself nothing out of something for your sake?
  • How does this compare to the way you live daily and the goals you pursue for yourself?- Adrian Rogers
