MORNING MANNA             10-1-25

October 1, 2025 By Pastor David Stone

“—all things work together for to them that love God–“  Romans 8:28

Unless you’re walking blindfolded through this world, you can’t help but notice that things are always changing, and usually not for the better. We live in a state of flux. Add to this the fact that these changes often come fast and unexpected, and you have the ideal setting for panic, even paranoia.

The frustrating thing about this is that, in most cases, these are things we didn’t choose, we can’t change, and can’t control. That doesn’t set too well with most of us. We like to dictate how we think things should be and direct how things go. When we can’t—– well you know what happens. Millions are miserable simply because things aren’t going as they planned. And it seems impossible to change their mind. They are stuck in a rut that will eventually become their grave if they don’t get out.

My dear friends, life is what it is. We can’t stop the changes. All we can do is to decide how we will respond. I love the poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox–

“Tis the Set of the Sail”. The third stanza says:
“One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow.
‘Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.”

So how is it with you? You can’t change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust your sails to catch the gales that propel you to your destination. As someone said,”Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out”. Do your best and then leave the rest to Him who is the Master of the sea. Nothing is beyond His control. There is no need to panic.- HDS, 6-9-12

RICH BEYOND MEASURE

“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭32‬ ‭

Satan delights in troubling God’s people and one of the most effective tools in his workshop is discouragement. To accomplish his goal he tries to convince us that we are deprived. He tells us that we deserve more, bigger, and better. Before this day is over you will be tempted to complain about something or someone. But yielding to that temptation will just make matters worse.

Our best defense against this trap is to remember what we have by virtue of being a child of God, to focus on what God gives us rather than what we don’t have. God gave His Son to save us, His Spirit to empower us, His Word to guide us, His wisdom to direct us, His goodness to supply us, His mercy to pardon us, His grace to restore us, His joy to strengthen us, His peace to calm us, His gifts to use us, and His promises to cheer us.

So, cheer up child of God, you are rich beyond measure! If God never did anything but save us we would have nothing to complain about. The great God who saves us provides everything we need, and far more than we deserve until we arrive at our heavenly home where there will be no more needs. Focus on that and you have a reason to rejoice. – HDS

MORNING MANNA            9-27-25
A WORK TO DO
“For to me to live is Christ” Philippians 1:21

Some poor souls grow so weary with the struggle of life that they yearn for it to end, and some take the next step. They are so troubled by their troubles that they decide life is not worth the living. How sad, and Oh how foolish!

If you are alive it is for a God-given purpose. Regardless of how bitter the battle, or how rough the road, or how difficult the duty, you are alive because God has a work for you to do. It is not ours to decide if it is worth the work, or if the reward will be reason enough to continue–our duty, and eventually our delight, is to do our duty, regardless of the degree of difficulty. Don’t worry about whether or not you will be successful or appreciated, just do your job –leave the results with God. He commands us to be faithful, not fruitful or famous. Winning His smile of approval is all that matters.

Here’s something I found in my notes from years ago that might encourage you. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I know they have helped me and perhaps they will do the same for you:

“Let us examine our capacities and gifts, and then put them to the best use we may. As our own view of life is of necessity partial, I do not find that we can do better than to put them absolutely in God’s hand, and look to Him for the direction of our life-energy. God can do great things with our lives, if we but give them to Him in sincerity. He can make them useful, uplifting, heroic. God never wastes anything. God never forgets anything. God never loses anything. As long as we live we have a work to do. We shall never be too old for it, nor too feeble. Illness, weakness, fatigue, sorrow,–none of these things can excuse us from this work of ours. That we are alive today is proof positive that God has something for us to do today.”

Notice the word “something “. Things can happen that we can no longer do what we once did, but there is “something “ we can do to serve God. The fact that we are alive is evidence of that. Do what you can, the best you can, while you can. -HDS

MORNING MANNA             9-26-25

September 26, 2025 By Pastor David Stone

“WHAT?” Not “WHEN?”

Under the pressure of severe trials we tend to ask, “When shall I get out of this?” or “How shall I get out of this?” But those are the wrong questions. A better question is, “What shall I get out of this?” But even then we do not always find an immediate answer.  That’s OK!  We don’t always need an answer.  We just need to believe that God will use the experience for some good reason as He has promised in Romans 8:28“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

If Job had followed the counsel of his wife it would have made matters worse.  Thankfully he refused to give up his faith and remained faithful. Moses could have followed the majority, but his life would have ended in a mess. Joseph could have discounted his dream and yielded to temptation, but his life would have been a disaster. So, what will you do?

Anyone can give up and complain when life gets difficult, but they pay a high price for doing so.  Someone said, “If Columbus had turned back, nobody would have blamed him, but nobody would have remembered him either.  If you want to be memorable, sometimes you have to be miserable.”

As believers we are called to live by faith.  To do that we must accept what God appoints or allows and do what He demands – regardless of cost, circumstances, or consequences; believing that He is working out His perfect plan in ways we cannot always understand. Wesley must never forget that God’s will is always right, best, and safest. Trust Him!- HDS
