MORNING MANNA            1/5/21

January 5, 2021 By Pastor David Stone

“I will strengthen thee.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Although I try to write every Morning Manna, several factors prevent me from doing so. Therefore I send something written by another whose abilities far exceed mine, something that has been a blessing to me, and hopefully will be a help to you. Such is the case today in this article by Charles Spurgeon. Facing the many struggles in life this is something we all need.

When called to serve or to suffer, we take stock of our strength, and we find it to be less than we thought and less than we need. But let not our heart sink within us while we have such a word as this to fall back upon, for it guarantees us all that we can possibly need. God has strength omnipotent; that strength He can communicate to us; and His promise is that He will do so. He will be the food of our souls and the health of our hearts; and thus He will give us strength. There is no telling how much power God can put into a man. When divine strength comes, human weakness is no more a hindrance.

Do we not remember seasons of labor and trial in which we received such special strength that we wondered at ourselves? In the midst of danger we were calm, under bereavement we were resigned, in slander we were self-contained, and in sickness we were patient. The fact is that God gives unexpected strength when unusual trials come upon us, We rise out of our feeble selves. Cowards play the man, foolish ones have wisdom given them, and the silent receive in the self-same hour what they shall speak, My own weakness makes me shrink, but God’s promise makes me brave. Lord, strengthen me “according to thy word.“

In light of all this it’s easy to see why Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” ( Phil. 4:13). Whatever great challenge lies before you today, God is able to infuse you with confidence and courage to face it. Be encouraged my friend! – HDS

The Gospel Message

“We pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” – 2 Corinthians 5:20-21

Here is the gospel in a nutshell. First, God made Jesus sin itself— Jesus who had never sinned in his life.

On the cross, Jesus took our sins on himself, and God treated Jesus as if he had lived your life! All the sinful thoughts, dishonest deeds, and selfish ways that have characterized your life were put upon Christ and he was punished as if they were his own thoughts and deeds and ways.

Jesus was your substitute; he took your place—and the penalty you deserved—on the cross. But more than that, he gave you his righteousness; in Christ, you have the very righteousness, the perfect record and holy character, of God himself.

So because God punished Jesus for your sins on the cross, he now treats you, dear believer, as if you had lived Jesus’ life! The slate is perpetually clean, the record is permanently expunged, the rap sheet is forever removed.

On behalf of Christ then, Paul says, we beg you to be reconciled to God. The impossible has occurred and a way has been made for you—corrupt and faulty sinner that you are—to have complete, unhindered access to and communion with the holy God.

The wrath of God against your sin was spent on Christ; Christ has reconciled you to God by his death. Will you not then be reconciled in your own heart and mind to God, trusting in and submitting to his sovereign grace in your life? – The Baptist Hour

MORNING MANNA          1/3/21

GOING WITHOUT KNOWING

“. . . . he went out, not knowing whither he went.” – Heb. 11:8

At first glance and without the context these few words seem to describe something foolish. To the natural mind it sounds stupid. However, when you read the entire verse and consider the complete context it makes perfect sense. It is a bold act of faith on the part of a man who has been instructed by God and who trusted the Lord. That man was Abraham – described in Rom. 4:11 as “the father of all them that believe”. And it was this great step of faith that led to all the future blessings related to Israel. It wa sin fact an act that eventually had an impact on the whole world.

Now, you might think that this story has nothing to do with us, but you’re wrong, and this is a good time to illustrate that fact. As we enter the new year we’re entering new territory. We’re headed where we’ve never been before and we don’t know what lies ahead.

Naturally God’s plan for Abraham was different than His plan for us, but there is a plan for each of us – although we enter the year blind to the future. We have no reason to wait for a voice from heaven to guide us, nor for angels to show up at our door to inform us. We are commanded to walk by faith. This of course seems foolish to the world. They mock us for what they call “blind faith”. Truth is, faith isn’t blind. We do not stumble along as blind men, not knowing if the next step is safe. We are walking by faith, trusting God to guide us, confident that He never leads us astray. They say we are stepping out on nothing, but that isn’t true. We’re stepping in the light of God’s Word and standing on the promises of God who cannot lie. No one who has ever done that has been disappointed. God always comes through.

True faith always leads to obedience and obedience always results in blessing. Abraham was going without knowing because he knew he was going with God. That’s always the safest place to be!. As Christians we all would like to think that God is pleased with us. If that’s the way you feel here is a test you need to consider. heb. 11:6 says, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. Over and over we are counselled and commanded to walk by faith. He who refuses is living in disobedience, and nothing good ever comes from that.

As you enter this new year without knowing where you are going, trust the One who does. Trust God to direct your steps and meet your needs. Remember, “he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”. Regardless of what you will have to face God is always with you, for you, and able to supply your needs. Trust Him! – HDS

MORNING MANNA          1/2/21

January 2, 2021 By Pastor David Stone

“Prepare to meet thy God” – Amos 4:12

We are hearing a lot about preparing to enter the new year and that’s fine, but sometimes we miss the mark on what is the most crucial. Preparation is an important part of life in every area. Preparation is an essential part of being successful at anything. That’s why we place such a great emphasis on education. Many go to great lengths to be a success in life. Strangely enough most of the same folks fail in regards to that which is even more important. They seem to forget about the fact that we all have an appointment with death (Heb. 9:27) and need to be prepared. Sadly some of the same people who prepare by way of a burial policy fail to prepare for where they will spend eternity. And without having been born again they will spend eternity in hell separated from God forever.

Several years ago I read about a man who went into the Alaskan wilderness to photograph the beauty of the land. In preparation for the trip he made elaborate plans. He double checked all his gear, equipment, film, food, and emergency supplies, etc. However, he forgot one crucial thing. He failed to make arrangements for the bush pilot to pick him up. He waited and waited, but no one came, and in November, 1981 he died about 225 miles NE of Fairbanks! We read that and think “O how foolish”. But even more foolish is the person who fails to prepare for eternity by trusting Christ as their Lord and Savior. Have you?

Considering that Christ has made eternal life available for everyone we would be foolish to die unprepared. Regardless of who you are or what you’ve done you can prepare to meet God right now by placing your faith in Christ. I pray that you will do so today. If you do please contact me so we can rejoice with you. – HDS

HAPPY NEW YEAR

January 1, 2021 By Pastor David Stone

HAPPY NEW YEAR

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. – Num. 6:24-26

In the first days of a new year, we all say to our friends and neighbors, “Happy New Year!” Our hearts are full of generous feelings and wishes for all we meet. But what can we do to give them a happy new year? We cannot compel their circumstances into fortunate adjustments, so as to produce happiness. Besides, we cannot know what would be the truest and best blessings for our friends. After all, the only really safe thing is to pray that God may be with them through the year, and may bless them in his own best and truest way. He knows better than we do—what is the best blessing. – J R Miller
