MORNING MANNA 7-28-25

July 28, 2025 By Pastor David Stone

MORNING MANNA                   7-28-25
WHEN DESIRES ARE DENIED
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ ‭

Sometimes we want answers and God isn’t talking. Sometimes we experience “needs” and God isn’t giving. How do you explain it? How can a loving God ignore our requests, crush our dreams, and strip us of our happiness? Should we really thank God for unanswered prayers? Yes–we should. Although we don’t understand His ways, He does all things well–even when He denies our desires. God’s answers are much wiser than our prayers and He loves us too much to let us have whatever we want, whenever we want it.

We need to learn, the best we can to look at things as He does. Our main desire should not be for comfort and cheer, but for Christ-like character, and that is what God is working to create in our life(Rom. 8:29). Contrary to what we think or desire, pain is often better for us than pleasure, loss is better than gain, and sorrow is better than joy in the plan God is working out in our lives. We often need the opposite of what we desire, we just don’t realize it. Sometimes we need disaster rather than deliverance, because that’s what it takes to make us humble.

When God withholds what we desire it doesn’t mean He isn’t giving us what is best. God loves you just as much when He denies your request as He does when He grants it. So when it seems that the heavens are brass and God is deaf, take comfort in the fact that God knows what we need most and He gives us what is best. Trust Him instead of trying to understand Him, and thank Him for unanswered prayers!–HDS

FROM SLAVE TO SERVANT

July 27, 2025 By Pastor David Stone

The following story was told by Arthur S. Maxwell:

In those bad old days when slavery was still practiced, Old Joe stood in the market place awaiting auction.

He was a grand specimen of manhood, big, strong, and healthy, but on his face at this moment there was an expression of anger and stubbornness that only faintly reflected the rebellious feelings in his heart.

His master had died, and in consequence he and many others of his fellow slaves were to be sold at public auction to the highest bidder. How he hated it all! He hated his chains; he hated the system which made it possible for human beings to be bought and sold like cattle; he hated the dreadful humiliation.

While he stood there waiting in the hot sun, there grew up in his heart a determination that he would not be bought, and if he were, he would never work for his new master.

Presently his name was called. The auctioneer began to describe him. “Joe. Fine strong fellow. Lots of hard work in him yet….”

“I will not work!” cried Joe in desperation.

The auctioneer ignored him, and went on giving his age, his height, his weight, and other particulars. “What offers?” he concluded.

Someone made a bid.

“I will not work!” cried Joe at the top of his voice.

No one bothered. The bidding went on.

Joe listened with interest that merged into amazement. He had no idea he as worth so much. Up and up went the price. Gradually the number of bidders decreased, but two or three went on. One man seemed determined to purchase him whatever the cost might be.

At last, when the price had reached the highest figure Joe had ever heard for a slave, the hammer fell. He was sold!

Soon his new master came over to where he was standing.

“I will not work,” said Joe. “You can thrash me, but I will not work. I told you that before.”

The new master said nothing, but proceeded to lead him away to his wagon. All the way out to the plantation Joe kept on muttering to himself, ” I won’t work. I won’t work.”

At last they arrived, and the master, instead of taking Joe to the usual dirty slave quarters, led him to a neat little cottage, remarking, “Joe, this will be your home while you are with us.”

“This for me?” said Joe, surprised. “Thank you, but I will not work.”

“You do not need to work,” said his master. “Just live here as long as you please.”

“But, master,” cried Joe in utter amazement, “aren’t you going to try to make me work?”

“Oh, no,” said the master quietly. “I bought you to set you free.”

“To set me free! Oh, master,” cried Joe, falling on his knees before him, “how can I thank you enough? I will gladly serve you always and do anything you want me to do.”

From that moment Joe became the most faithful and loyal servant his master ever had.

EXAMINE YOURSELVES
“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” –2 Corinthians 13:5

Merchants understand the importance of knowing what they have and what they need. In other words, they need to know where they stand. Assuming all is well is a big mistake. However, there is another inventory we need to take that is of far greater importance. I’m talking about the need to take an inventory concerning our relationship with God. As Paul says, “Examine yourselves”. Let’s face it–the chances are good that you don’t like to face the facts regarding your spiritual condition–most of us don’t. However, we need to give this some serious thought. We are commanded to do so. As unpleasant as it is, we need a spiritual check-up, and to do it we must keep some facts in mind.

Here’s the facts– Believers in Christ are known as such by their affection for Him. That is an undeniable fact, clearly set forth in God’s Word. But there is more. Our new affections bring new appetities also. We long for what we love. When we truly love Christ we will have a desire to please Him. This desire is God-given.

The moment we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior the Holy Spirit enters our heart and proceeds to transform us. He gives us new hungers, new hopes, and noticeable help. He doesn’t just engage us, He empowers us and enables us to do what was previously impossible. We, and others, begin to notice that we are different–we now will to do His will. It was with this in mind that Paul wrote, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”(2 Cor. 5:17).

While we aren’t perfect we are at least headed in the right direction. Salvation doesn’t just affect us in the sweet bye and bye, it affects us in the nasty here and now. As a result of our new nature we have new affections, new appetites, new attitudes, and new actions. It’s not just a matter of us changing, it’s a matter of us being changed. We are different because the Holy Spirit is conforming us to the image of Christ.

Now, here’s the sad thing–many presume they are saved and profess to be saved when there is absolutely no evidence that they are. They either refuse to examine themselves or they deny the unmistakable evidence–believing all will end well, when all the evidence is to the contrary. They are oblivious to the obvious. They are lost and unaware of it. What could be more sad than that?

So, how is it with you? Have you honestly examined yourself in the light of God’s Word? Is there evidence that you have indeed been born again? Do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you will go to heaven when you die? Can you truly say that you love Christ more than anything and want to please Him in everything? Is your love of Christ evident? Have you examined yourself lately? Will you do so today?- HDS

MORNING MANNA             7-25-25

July 25, 2025 By Pastor David Stone

“Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer”.–1 Corinthians 10:10

Have you ever noticed that those who complain the most about life being unfair are often the worst offenders. They are easily offended by the injustice of others toward them, but they fret not about their injustices toward others. It’s like the pot calling the kettle black.

I suspect their own guilty conscious has something to do with this. They know they are guilty and they know that others know, so in an effort to get the spotlight off of them they turn it on others. They don’t have enough sense to know that you can’t make yourself look good by making others look bad. I’ve known some preachers who always harped about some particular sin, regardless of the theme of their sermon. They couldn’t get through a message about anything without making mention of their disdain  for that sin—until it was finally discovered that they themselves were guilty of it.

Finding fault seems to be the favorite pastime of a lot of folks. They are always in an uproar about something. In their mind nothing is ever right unless it’s exactly the way they want it to be. They move from one church to another and never settle down unless they get in a position of authority where they can run the show or find a church where the pastor is so cowardly that he caves in to their demands. These are trouble makers of the worst sort–a snake in the grass, wolves in sheep’s clothing. They go through life taking advantage of others, creating strife, leaving people disappointed and bitter.

Before we blame others it would do us all good to think about our own faults and failures. Even when we have been subjected to some injustice it is often better to suffer through it than to make an issue out of it. No, life isn’t always fair, but we are as much to blame as anybody else. Today you were mistreated. Yesterday you mistreated someone. If you’re going to make an issue of something let it be with your sin rather than that of the other party. Paul rebuked the Corinthians for going to law against one another and then he asked this question, ” Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?”(1 Cor. 6:7). It is not our place to try to correct every injustice. For the sake keeping peace we sometimes must suffer loss. It might be difficult but in the end it will pay great dividends–God always rewards obedience. And vengeance belongs to Him. Wrong doers will reap what they sow. Those who lie and cheat will be chastised  by the Lord—just leave the matter in His hands and move on.- HDS
