MORNING MANNA               12-17-2

4THANKFUL FOR ANOTHER DAY

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.-“ –1 Thessalonians 5:18

Verna Chambers, of Willcox, AZ., got out of bed one morning and put on a t-shirt with these words on it,”Be nice to me. I had a hard day”. Shortly afterward little Eric looked at her and said,”How can you tell this early in the morning?. That ought to get our attention.

Sometimes we start the day expecting the worst. Before our feet ever hit the floor we have convinced ourself that this is going to be “a hard day”. We rise with no chreeful expectation of what the day might hold. We just assume the worse. In other words, we make ourselves miserable before God has had a chance to bless us with some good thing. The sad thing is that our attitude usually shows in our face and affects those we come in contact with. So, how are you doing so far this morning? Have you already decided that this is going to be a bad day? Is there really nothing to smile about? Is it not possible that some delightful blessing is just a few hours, or maybe only minutes, away? I know, some of you would like to punch me in the nose about now. And you are right, I don’t know how hard life has been for you. And I don’t know what the day will bring. But I do know this. As a child of God I have a loving Father in heaven who is anxious to bless me–and you. Why then should we not expect Him to do so?

By the way–blessings come in many forms. Just being able to get out of bed and dress yourself is a great blessing. Many can’t do that. Having a roof over your head, shoes on your feet, and something to eat should be a reason to rejoice. Things could be a lot worse than they are! I’ll admit, I don’t know what your day will hold. It might indeed be “a hard day”, but why should we expect it to happen when we have no evidence that it will? Even if it does can God not use it for some good? The best way to start the day is to be thankful for the gift of life, the gifts in life, and the gift of eternal life. Now, you have a good day! HDS, 7-30-10

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW

This is the title of one of most the famous gospel songs in the world and was made famous by Ethel Walters, who used it as the title of her autobiography.

“His Eye is on the Sparrow” was written by Civilla Martin, the wife of a Baptist Pastor. She described in her own words how she came to write the song. “In the spring of 1905, my husband and I were sojourning in Elmira, New York. We contracted a deep friendship with a couple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle—true saints of God. Mrs. Doolittle had been bedridden for over twenty years. Her husband was an incurable cripple who had to propel himself to and from his business in a wheel chair. Despite their afflictions, they lived happy Christian lives, bringing inspiration and comfort to all who knew them. One day while we were visiting with the Doolittles, my husband commented on their bright hopefulness and asked them the secret of their joy in the midst of pain. Mrs. Doolittle’s reply was simple: ‘If His eye is on the sparrow, then I know He watches me.’ The beauty of this expression of simple faith gripped my heart and that same evening I wrote the words for the song.” The rest, as they say, is history. If you’re discouraged, afraid of the future, or struggling with the problems of today, listen again to the words of this beautiful song: “Why should I feel discouraged? Why should the shadows come? Why should my heart feel lonely, and long for heaven and home? When Jesus is my portion, a constant friend is He. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches over me. His eye is on the sparrow; and I know He watches me. I sing because I’m happy. I sing because I’m free! His eye is on the sparrow; and I know He watches me. His eye is on the sparrow; and I know He watches me.”

The lyrics of that song are taken from the words of Jesus recorded in Matthew 10:28-31. Every child of God can live in the blessed assurance that God is aware of their circumstances and able to meet every need. Although our needs are many our God is Mighty! I pray that whatever your problem is that you will find peace in this promise.- HDS

THE NAME ABOVE EVERY NAME
Having met R.G. Lee and hearing him preach I am sending this to give you a sample of his preaching. The important thing is not just his way with words, but his exalting of Christ.
R. G. Lee spoke of the sovereign authority of Jesus’ name in a sermon entitled “The Name Above Every Name”, from Philippians 2:9-10. He said,

The Transcendence of the name of Jesus and its everlasting glory depend upon the work accomplished at the place called Calvary and at the open grave. It is because of that, dear friends, that He stands out today the First Begotten from the dead, “that in all things he might have the pre-eminence.” “His name shall endure forever.”

When the names of earth’s benefactors are no more remembered, when the achievements of science are no longer of value, when the guesses of philosophers are seen to be in vain, when time shall be no more – multitudes, in praise of Him in gratitude for salvation through His name, will still sing the song of Moses, and of the Lamb of enduring name. When the Caesars and Charlemagne, the Napoleons and Wellingtons and their so-called splendid victories are forgotten, the multitudinous trophies of His saving power, in enjoyment of His endless fruits of His blood-bought victories, will sing the praises of His peerless name.

There never was a name like the name of Jesus – so representative of sacrificial love at its best. And someday, “every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord . . . to the glory of God the Father.”

What he said is true. If you have never received Christ as your Savior I urge you to do so right now.- HDS

The real secret of the Christian life

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭6‬

 ‭

Here is a story from Senior Living that I actually remember happening when I was a teen. I even knew a man in our area who was nicknamed  “Wild Bill” after this fellow.

“In the 1950s, there was a very famous race car driver by the name of Bill Vukovich who won the Indianapolis 500 in 1953 and 1954. Few other drivers had matched his success, and everyone wanted to know his secret.

One day, a reporter caught up with Vukovich and asked him what his secret was to winning the Indy 500 in back-to-back years. Vukovich, unfazed by the question, bluntly answered, “There is no secret. You just press the accelerator to the floor and steer left!”

Sadly, Vukovich was killed in a crash during the Indy 500 the very next year. Yet his words serve as a reminder that being successful at something isn’t necessarily complicated; it’s doing the simple things well.

Many Christians search in vain for the secret to the true spiritual life. Books have been written and conferences have packed auditoriums to teach this very subject. But the Christian spiritual life isn’t complicated. In fact, it’s embodied in the simple word faith.

So when you’re asked about what the secret is to the Christian life, the answer is simply, “Faith.” Have faith that Christ has saved you, faith in His provision for you each day, and faith that one day you’ll be with Him forever!

Pray and ask God to help you continue to strengthen your faith in Him.”

MORNING MANNA / ANNOUNCEMENT

December 11, 2024 By Pastor David Stone

I’m sending this to let you know that I won’t be able to preach Sunday. I won’t go into the details other than to say that the problem has to do with dentures. I never thought about dentures being so important, but now I know – especially for preachers!

I hope you believe me when I say I always want to preach. If I had my way I would never miss. In fact I wish I could also help at Reunion Court, Landon Ridge, and the Villas, but I can’t. I pray that this will change.

I have to continually remind myself that it’s all under God’s control and this is a stage of life that I must go through. But I would be lying if I said it’s not discouraging. God willing the problem will be solved on Dec.18th and I will be able to preach next Sunday. If anything changes I will let you know. Your prayers will be greatly appreciated.
Your servant in Christ, Bro. Stone
