MORNING MANNA             12-11-24

MORNING MANNA               12-11-24
STUDYING THE SCRIPTURES

“Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.” ‭‭Job‬ ‭23‬:‭12‬ ‭

As important as it is you have to wonder why it’s so difficult to get people to read God’s Word daily. You can give them a long list of reasons why it’s important and they will agree with you yet fail to do it.

But if you think that’s difficult try to get them to study the Bible everyday. I suspect if we knew who does and who doesn’t we would be shocked. But in some cases it would provide the answer for things being as they are in the lives of some folks.

Sadly a great many people are on a starvation spiritual diet. Although they are saved they are stuck on stunted rather than growing in the likeness of Christ. And, strangely they appear to be content with things as they are when they are not as they should be.

May God help all of us to spend more quality time with God each day. It will make a difference in that it is educational to our mind, edifying to our soul, and evident to others. When we esteem (value) God’s Word we will have an appetite for it. We will yearn for it as a babe does for its mother’s milk. We will not be satisfied with the junk food of religious jargon we hear so much of today if our goal is to grow spiritually.

It’s my prayer that you will —
– love God’s Word compassionately
– long for God’s Word constantly
– learn from God’s Word continuously
– look to God’s Word confidently
– live out God’s Word consistently
– lean upon God’s Word completely
– lift up God’s Word courageously

Here is a command and a challenge that all should remember, “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” 2 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭18‬ ‭

To study the Bible you have to make time for it. This is the biggest obstacle for most people—they just can’t seem to find the time. The fact is we all have the same amount of time. Bible study is a matter of priority. If we attach the value to it that we should we will take time for it. Get up earlier, or stay up later, do what you have to do—but don’t neglect it.- HDS

MORNING MANNA              12-10-24

W. A. Criswell told this story. Streetcar going down the tracks in a big city: fellow on the inside seated there in the streetcar reading his paper.  Streetcar came to a halt. On the outside, a childish, treble voice: “Hey, Mister! Streetcar Conductor, wait up!  Wait up.  Wait for me.  Wait for me!”

The man put down his paper, looked at the door, and in climbed a boy. Oh, his legs were withered!  No doctor could ever heal him.  The little boy, smiling brightly, said, “Thank you, Mr. Conductor, for waiting up for me.  You see, I can’t go very fast.”

Sat down by the man who’s reading his paper.  The man looked at him.  He was so bright.  He said, “Son, you seem happy.”

“Yes, sir,” he said, “Yes, sir.”

Well, the man just ventured—He said, “How are you happy when you can’t walk and you have to have crutches?”

“Oh,” said the little boy to the stranger—“Oh,” he said, “My Daddy says to me that God always does what is best for us.  My Daddy says God says this is best for me, and don’t you think, Mister, I ought to be happy with what is best?”

Well, the man was dumbfounded.  He said, “I guess you’re right, son.  I guess that’s right.”

And then the boy added, “You know, my Daddy says that some of these days, some of these days, my legs won’t be like this.  Some of these days, my legs are going to be strong and well, and God’s going to give me another body—a new one.”

Man never had heard anything like that before.  You see, the boy was a Christian.  His daddy, whoever he was, was a Christian daddy, and he placed on the heart, inside the heart of that boy, the Christian hope; and with it always comes a song.  That’s the Christian faith.  That’s it.”

Rather than focus on our flaws – what we are, we Christians would do better to focus on our future – what we shall be. As Christians the future always looks bright if we look far enough ahead! – HDS

ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN?

The following was written by James Smith in 1856.

This is a very important inquiry, because many profess to be so — who are not in reality. And yet no one can be saved — unless he is a Christian. For if anyone is in Christ, or is a Christian — he is a new creature. He is born again by the Spirit of God. Christ is formed in his heart, the hope of glory. His body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

He is convinced of sin — and mourns over it;
he hates sin — and departs from it;
he reads the Word of God — and loves it;
he hears the gospel of Christ — and believes it.

He becomes a disciple of Christ, . . .
  learning His doctrines,
  trusting His promises,
  and doing His will.

He receives the Spirit of Christ, which is a spirit of meekness, love, and holiness.

He places his entire dependence upon the blood and righteousness of Christ for acceptance with God, and pleads the name of Christ alone for the blessings which he seeks from the Father. He has no confidence in his own doings, nor does he expect his tears, repentance, or holy life, to make his peace with God — but relies on the one sacrifice of Jesus, by which atonement is made for the sins of every believer.

He views Jesus as the One Mediator between God and man, and seeks acceptance for his person, prayers, and services — only through Him. He . . .
  loves the person of Christ,
imitates the example of Christ, and
  observes the ordinances of Christ.

He would rather suffer for Christ — than sin against Christ!

He commits his soul into the hands of Jesus . . .
to be pardoned through His blood,
to be justified by His righteousness,
to be sanctified by His Spirit,
to be preserved by His power,
to be used for His glory, and
to be presented faultless by Him to the Father at last.

He looks for the second coming of Christ with joy, because then he will be like Him, for he will see Him as He is!

Such is a Christian, according to the New Testament.

Reader, are you one?

Can you live without prayer?
Can you be happy without Christ?
Can you neglect or despise the Word of God?
If so — then you are not a Christian!

Every Christian finds . . .
prayer to be the breath of his soul,
Christ to be the food of his soul,
the Bible to be the comfort of his soul, and
the Lord’s people the beloved companions of his soul.

Examine yourself, for thousands bear the Christian name — who know nothing of Christian experience. Multitudes live and die under a delusion — and will say to Jesus at last, “Lord, Lord, we were Christians!” Then He will say unto them, “I never knew you! Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!” This will be dreadful — most dreadful!

How to Know You Have Eternal Life

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭13‬ ‭

Senior Living tells this true story. H. A. Ironside was once speaking with an elderly man who told him that he wanted to be sure of his salvation in Jesus Christ. So Ironside asked him, “Suppose you had a vision of an angel who told you your sins were forgiven. Would that assure you that you’re going to heaven when you die? Would that be enough to rest on?”

The man replied, “Yes, I think it would. An angel would be splendid.”

Ironside continued, “But suppose on your deathbed Satan came and said, ‘I was that angel, transformed to deceive you.’ What would you say?”

The man was speechless. So Ironside told him that God has given us something more dependable than the voice of an angel. He has given His Son, who died for our sins, and He has testified in His own Word that if we trust Him, all our sins are gone. Ironside read today’s passage in 1John 5:13, and asked, “Is that not enough to rest on? It is a letter from heaven expressly to you!”

So when doubt creeps in, stand on the promises of God and remember that because of your faith in Jesus Christ, you can know you have eternal life!

MORNING MANNA            12-4-24

I have been sending Morning Manna for 18 years as a means of maintaining contact and hopefully encouraging our members. I am sending this to let you know that for the immediate future it will be hit and miss.

I felt it was necessary to send this notice because when I miss sending it people will sometimes contact me to see if I am okay. Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement over the years. If I get back to sending it daily I will let you know, or it will become obvious.

I pray that God will richly bless you and your family!
Your in Christ, Bro. Stone
