MORNING MANNA            4-6-23

MORE BEYOND
“ But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”- 2 Pet. 3:18

Here is a bit of history that serves to remind us of something very important.

“In Valladolid (Val-la-do-lid), Spain, where Christopher Columbus died in 1506, stands a monument commemorating the great discoverer. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the memorial is a statue of a lion at the base of it, where the Spanish National Motto is engraved.

The lion is reaching out with its paw and is destroying one of the Latin words that had been part of Spain’s motto for centuries. Before Columbus made his voyages, the Spaniards thought they had reached the outer limits of earth. Thus their motto was, No More Beyond. The word being torn away by the lion is no, making it read, More Beyond. Columbus had proven that there was indeed more beyond.”

But let’s talk about the discovery itself. While we all agree that that Columbus “discovered” American, we also know that he did not explore all he discovered. While he came into contact with the shores he knew nothing about the great rivers, majestic mountains, etc. There was so much more beyond that was yet to be discovered. Even so, it is the same with those who have discovered Christ. While they know Him as their Lord and Savior there is much more yet to be learned and experienced. Those who have come to Him are to learn of Him and follow after Him, that they might be like Him!

Regardless of how many years you’ve been saved or how much you know, I can safely say there is more beyond! Of His person and work, we never know all until that great day when we shall be with Him and like Him. As long as we are on this earth we are to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”( 2 Pet. 3:18). The second we stop we are backslidden. Since none of us have yet to be perfectly conformed to His image all of us should be always progressing in that direction. Are you? – HDS

FULL SURRENDER
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” – Romans 12:1

Let’s face it–we are seldom completely honest about our spiritual condition. We are prone to stretch the truth, so as to put ourself in the best possible light. Instead of singing “I surrender all”, some should be singing “I surrender some” or “I surrender nothing”. That would be more honest.

If we want to experience God’s best and enjoy our relationship with Him, we must present ourselves as “a living sacrifice”. Only then can we be what He wants us to be. We would do well to meditate on these words written many years ago by William Law:

“When it is the one ruling, never-ceasing desire of our hearts, that God may be the beginning and end, the reason and motive, the rule and measure, of our doing or not doing, from morning to night; then everywhere, whether speaking or silent, whether inwardly or outwardly employed, we are equally offered up to the eternal Spirit, have our life in Him and from Him, and are united to Him by that Spirit of Prayer which is the comfort, the support, the strength and security of the soul, travelling, by the help of God, through the vanity of time into the riches of eternity. Let us have no thought or care, but how to be wholly His devoted instruments; everywhere, and in everything, His adoring, joyful, and thankful servants.”

AMEN! Let us remember, if we aren’t under the Spirit’s control we are out of control.-HDS

CATCH A FALLING STAR?

“Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.”–Jeremiah 32:17

Who hasn’t heard the old song, “Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket”? Stars have been the object of man’s attention throughout  the ages. As a boy I spent a lot of hot summer nights sleeping outside under the stars. My favorite part was watching for “falling”, some would say “shooting”, stars. They were amazing.

Did you know it is possible that you have been hit by a piece of a falling star? It’s true! It’s estimated thatmore than 10,000 tons of “star dust” falls to earth every year. So, although the pieces are so small you wouldn’t be aware of it, you just might have been sprinkled with “star dust”.

The universe is marvellous! I don’t know how anyone can look up in the starry sky and deny the existence of God. In fact you don’t even have to look up. We see evidence of intelligent design everywhere we look. We see it with the telescope and with the mircoscope. It’s everywhere. And to think–planet earth is just a speck in the vast universe. What if we could see it all? The mysteries are endless. We aren’t nearly as smart as we think we are. But anyone should be able to see that, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”(Psalm 19:1).

I have no way of knowing if I’ve been hit by a piece of a star, but I suppose it could have happened. That’s no big deal. Whether you knew about this possibility or not really isn’t important. It has no affect on your life. However, there are some things that we desperately do need to know –and, in this case, God has given us the answers. Did you know that although we have all sinned and are deserving of eternal punishment, God made it possible for us to have eternal life? It’s true! He sent His Son who He died on the cross that we might be saved.”–God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8). And all who trust Him receive the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Even if you were so smart that you knew the exact distance to and the weight of each star it would not get you into heaven. Only Jesus Christ can do that (John 14:6).

If God can create and control the universe He can do anything–even save your soul. Nothing is too hard for God! Have you trusted Him as your Lord and Savior? – HDS

WAIT WITH PATIENCE

“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him” (Ps. 37:7).

Have you prayed and prayed and waited and waited, and still there is no manifestation?

Are you tired of seeing nothing move? Are you just at the point of giving it all up? Perhaps you have not waited in the right way? This would take you out of the right place the place where He can meet you.

“With patience wait” (Rom. 8:25). Patience takes away worry. He said He would come, and His promise is equal to His presence. Patience takes away your weeping. Why feel sad and despondent? He knows your need better than you do, and His purpose in waiting is to bring more glory out of it all. Patience takes away self-works. The work He desires is that you “believe” (John 6:29), and when you believe, you may then know that all is well. Patience takes away all want. Your desire for the thing you wish is perhaps stronger than your desire for the will of God to be fulfilled in its arrival.

Patience takes away all weakening. Instead of having the delaying time, a time of letting go, know that God is getting a larger supply ready and must get you ready too. Patience takes away all wobbling…. God’s foundations are steady; and when His patience is within, we are steady while we wait. Patience gives worship. A praiseful patience sometimes “long-suffering with joyfulness” (Col. 1:11) is the best part of it all. “Let (all these phases of) patience have her perfect work” (James 1:4), while you wait, and you will find great enrichment. ACCEPTING GOD’ S  GRACE

“Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.”- Philippians 3:4–6

The Apostle Paul had all of the credentials necessary to be accepted in any Jewish community. The great missionary traced his lineage back to the tribe of Benjamin, which was the tribe of Israel’s first king whose name Paul shared at his birth. He devoted his life to keeping not just the laws of God, but the additional rules and regulations that the Pharisees had created over the years. By the time of Christ there were more than six hundred of these do’s and don’ts that had been added to the Law that God had given to Moses. These rules were established by people who wanted to gain salvation through their own efforts. Yet Paul completely downplayed all of his human credentials and his own performance. He wrote, “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ” (Philippians 3:7).

Any effort that we make to deserve salvation is doomed to failure. The sinful nature we have from birth has no interest in obeying God. Many people are like the lawyer whose question sparked the story of the Good Samaritan. The Bible says he was “willing to justify himself” (Luke 10:29). God is not impressed with our good deeds and holiness. The very best that we can do falls so far short of His perfection and glory that it does not help at all. There is no hope of Heaven in anything we do or avoid doing. The only hope that we have for salvation is the grace of God—a free gift.

Do not fall into the trap of thinking anything gives you standing with God apart from His grace. – (Paul  Chappell)
