LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST

August 18, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Here is prayer by Charles Swindoll for living life to the fullest:

Our desire, Father, is to be fully present—all there—wherever we are. We want to live to the hilt every situation we believe to be Your will. You have placed us in the twenty-first century, with our specific families, in our particular neighborhoods. May we live here, now, fully, completely, passionately. In our occupations, may we fulfill wholeheartedly our calling there as well. You have given us the joy of the fellowship of the saints in a local church. May we make the most of every opportunity to welcome others into it.

Lord God, deliver the body of Christ from becoming a museum full of aging memories—dusty, dull, irrelevant, and out of touch. At the same time, keep us attached to our past—to the great truths of Your timeless Word and to the great music of the ages. In all of this, may we stay in touch with our world today. The needs are enormous and numerous. Help us know how to build bridges across the moat that separates us from a needy world, so that we become a point of comfort and authenticity, a place of hope, a harbor of relief, and rescue for those who have lost their way.

In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen.

THERE’S ALWAYS A WAY

April 15, 2015 By Pastor David Stone

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” 1 Cor. 10:13

“There’s always a way”. That’s what people say when they don’t know what it is! Then, they unsuccessfully try this and that to no avail, and finally say, “It’s too much. I can’t handle it.”

The strange thing is — they were right about it at first: there always is a way—God’s way!

That way may not be one to our liking, it may not be one that we find easy, but He has an answer to every problem that a Christian ever faces. That’s what He told us in 1 Corinthians 10:13:

Look it up. You will find three things that He says about tests that come a Christian’s way:

  1. No problem overtakes a believer but what is common to other believers. That is to say, no one’s trial is unique. People are always complaining “Nobody has ever had to face what I’m facing”—or words to that effect. They are wrong. Many have before—and have (by God’s grace) been able to overcome it.
  2. God will not allow a Christian to be tested beyond what he is able to handle (if he handles it God’s way, of course). God promises: though the problem isn’t unique, it is uniquely suited to each individual believer.
  3. God will, with the test, also send the way out in order that one may be able to handle it.

What wonderful promises! (By Jay Adams)

FULFILLING YOUR ROLE

April 14, 2015 By Pastor David Stone

“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”–Matt. 9:37-38

The president of a large missions ministry sat across from one of his wealthiest board members and his wife one evening over dinner. He shared about all that God was doing in the ministry and about the lives that were being impacted across the globe.

Suddenly, the board member’s eyes welled up with tears as he confessed to the president, “I feel like we’ve missed our calling. I hear about the stories of lives being impacted by the gospel, and I can’t help but think I should be the one out there doing what you are doing.”

The president unflinchingly looked right at the board member and said, “My friend, the reason we’re able to do what we do is because you’re doing what you do. God has given you the ability to make money and give it away. And by doing that, you’ve replicated yourself hundreds, maybe even thousands of times, and sent yourself all over the globe!”

The truth is that the Great Commission has many components. And as believers, each of us is called in some way to be one of them. So whether you’re actively going and sharing Christ with others, giving financially for the growth of the Kingdom, or praying for missionaries, be involved in God’s global purpose and fulfill your role in the Great Commission.

Pray and ask God to give you clarity on how He wants you to be involved in moving the Kingdom forward across the globe.(Copied) Each of us should take part by doing our part, even though what we do is different than what others do.

A GOOD QUESTION

April 13, 2015 By Pastor David Stone

“Why are ye troubled.” Luke 24:38

Consider what Jesus has done for you, promised to you, and is gone to prepare for you. Consider what He is to you, your loving Bridegroom, faithful Friend, and gracious Saviour. What troubles you? Is it sin? He will pardon, subdue, and destroy it. The world? He has overcome it, redeemed you from it, and is leading you through it. Satan? He is conquered, condemned, and will soon be imprisoned. The cares and troubles of life? Jesus says, “Bring them to Me by prayer, cast them on Me in faith, leave them with Me; I know what you want, I have provided of My goodness, I will supply all your needs; your bread shall be given you, and your water shall be sure. I will make a way in the wilderness of trouble, and a path in the desert of perplexity. Let not your hearts be trouble, ye believe in God, believe also in Me. Try Me. Trust Me. In all your ways acknowledge Me, and I will direct your paths. I have wisdom, power, and love; and all that I have is yours; to be employed for your good.” Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass. (James Smith, 1840)

Yield to the Lord, with simple heart,
All that thou hast, and all thou art;
Renounce all strength, but strength divine,
And peace shall be for ever thine :
Behold the path the saints have trod,
The path which led them home to God.

DISAPPEARING DIFFICULTIES

April 12, 2015 By Pastor David Stone

“And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.”–Mark 16:2-4

This stone had worried the women, as they hurried toward the grave. They knew it was there, that it was too heavy for them with their frail hands to roll away, and they wondered how they could get it removed. But now, when they came in sight of the tomb—they looked up and saw that the stone was rolled away!

This incident illustrates many experiences in our common life. We worry about difficulties and obstacles which lie in our path—and seem to block our progress. But when we move on obediently, and come to the place of the supposed hindrance or obstacle—it is gone, or it was never there, except in our imagination! We all know that very many of our anxieties prove to be really groundless in the end.

Here, we ought to learn the lesson once for all—when God sends us anywhere, that He also makes it possible for us to go. Duty’s paths always open for us, as we go on—not before we start—but as we obey and move forward. Yet we must not expect there will never be any difficulties to meet, or obstacles to surmount. God never has promised that! Too easy a path is often a bane in life—not a blessing! The difficulties and obstacles that remain, may be made stepping-stones by which we shall rise to nobler and higher Christian character.–J. R. Miller
