THE PERSONAL ATTRACTIONS OF JESUS

August 2, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

—Yea, He is altogether lovely! This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend—” Song of Songs 5:16

His love wins us.
His glory charms us.
His beauty attracts us.
His sympathy soothes us.
His gentleness subdues us.
His faithfulness inspires us.

He is the “altogether lovely One!”

Jesus is all that is tender in love.
Jesus is all that is wise in counsel.
Jesus is all that is patient and kind.
Jesus is all that is faithful in friendship.
Jesus is all that is balmy, soothing, and healing.

The heart of Jesus is ever loving towards His children.
The disposition of Jesus is ever kind towards His children.
The nature of Jesus is ever sympathizing towards His children.

Jesus is your Brother, your Friend, your Redeemer.
As your Brother — He knows the need of His brethren in adversity.
As your Friend — He shows Himself friendly.
As your Redeemer — He has redeemed your soul from sin and hell.

Jesus has ascended up on high to take possession of
heaven on your behalf, and to prepare a place for you!

Upon His heart He wears your name as a
precious pearl in the priestly breastplate.

There is . . .
not a moment of your time,
nor an event of your life,
nor a circumstance of your daily history,
nor a mental or spiritual emotion of yours —
in which you are not borne upon the love, and
remembered in the ceaseless intercession of Christ.

Yea, He is altogether lovely! This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend—” Song of Songs 5:16

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS

August 2, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

Mercy shall be built up forever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens– Psalm 89:2

The Scriptures abound with declarations that God is faithful. Since we live in a world that is constantly changing and face many disappointments along the way, it is reassuring to be reminded of the faithfulness of God. One definition of the word faithful is “worthy of trust,” and this is certainly applicable to God because He has repeatedly proven that His word is sure and that He can be trusted.

The Apostle Paul reminds us that God cannot lie. Because He is holy it is impossible for Him to declare anything but truth or make any promise that will not be kept. It may seem to us at times that God has forgotten us. David experienced such a doubt but then admitted he had spoken in haste. We must remember that God works on His own timetable and just because we do not see immediate evidence of His promise being fulfilled it does not mean He has forsaken us.

No matter how bleak your future may appear you can be assured that God’s promise is certain when He says, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” In spite of your sufferings and trials you can have confidence that He will be with you and even use the difficulties to teach you and draw you closer to Him.

Because of God’s faithfulness you can have bright expectations. He will not let anything separate you from Him.  He is keeping you by His power. Having begun a good work in you, He will not abandon it but will bring it to consummation so that one day you will be safe home to live with Him forever. Surely you can lift your heart in praise to sing, “Great is thy faithfulness.”– Copied

DON’T FAIL TO TELL

July 31, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace…Ephesians 1:7

Many years ago, there was a young man in Pennsylvania who received the death penalty for murder. So one day, his mother went to the governor of the state to plead for her son’s life. The governor told the woman, “I don’t know if I can pardon him, but I will at least go and see him.”

The young man had been in prison for years, and didn’t know who the governor was. So when he walked into the prison to see him, the young man didn’t say a word. “Son,” the governor said, “I’d like to speak to you.” No response. The boy just turned his head and refused to even look at him.

After several minutes, the governor left in frustration. As he was on his way out, the guard said, “Thank you for coming by, governor,” and shut the door. The boy heard that and was thrown into a fit. “No one told me it was the governor! Why didn’t you tell me?!”

The governor was the only one who could’ve saved the boy’s life, and no one told the young man who he was. In the same way, there’s only one man who can save the world from eternal death: Jesus. Don’t let anyone go without knowing who He is!

BENEFITS IN THE BIBLE

July 30, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man  of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Evidently many folks see no benefit in reading the Bible, but they are mistaken. This story from Daily Living for Seniors serves to illustrate how valuable Bible reading can be:

Before a young man left for his freshman year at college, his parents gave him a Bible and assured him it would be a great help as he transitioned into his new life. Within a month, he began sending them letters asking for money. Every time he did, his parents would write back telling him to read his Bible, citing chapter and verse.

He would reply that he was reading the Bible, but he still needed money. So when he came home for a semester break, his parents told him they knew he hadn’t been reading his Bible. “How?” the son asked.

“Because we tucked money by the verses we cited in our letters!”

Very often, people don’t think the Bible actually speaks to their needs. But today’s passage is clear that Scripture is sufficient for daily life (even if there’s no money in it!). Whatever your situation, God has something to say to you through the Bible.

Read the Scriptures. Make it a habit to spend time with God in His Word because in it, you have everything you need to experience the fullness of life He wants you to have!

Pray and ask God to speak to you through His Word as you read it.

REVIEWING HIS LOVE

July 29, 2013 By Pastor David Stone

We can never be reminded too often of God’s love for fallen man. Considering the greatness of His grace, the magnitude of His mercy, and the largeness of His love, how can we not love Him? Yet sometimes our heart grows cold and we cease to express our love as we should. That’s a problem that needs to be fixed asap! Here’s how— Since we love Him because He first loved us, to renew our love for Him we must review His love for us. Thomas Brooks put it like this:

“That Christ should love man when he was most unlovely, that man’s extreme misery should but inflame Christ’s love and mercy, this melts the believing soul.

That Christ should leave the eternal bosom of his Father; that he that was equal with God should come in the form of a servant; that he that was clothed with glory, and born a king, should be wrapped in rags; that he that the heaven of heavens could not contain should be cradled in a manger; that from his cradle to his cross, his whole life should be a life of sorrows and sufferings; that the Judge of all flesh should be condemned; that the Lord of life should be put to death; that he that was his Father’s joy should in anguish of spirit cry out, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”; that that head that was crowned with honour should be crowned with thorns; that those eyes that were as a flame of fire, that were dearer than the sun, should be closed up by the darkness of death; that those ears which were wont to hear nothing but hallelujahs should hear nothing but blasphemies; that that face that was white and ruddy should be spit upon by the Jews; that that tongue that spake as never man spake, yea, as never angel spake, should be accused of blasphemy; that those hands which swayed both a golden sceptre and a iron rod, and those feet that were as fine brass should be nailed to the cross; and all this for man’s transgression, for man’s rebellion: Oh! the sight of these things, the believing of these things, the acting of faith on these things, makes a gracious soul to break and bleed, to sigh and groan, to mourn and lament.“
