AN UNFAILING FRIEND

December 4, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

—there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.–Proverbs 18:24

In such a world as this, how many hearts there are which ought to respond to that appeal! How many there are who feel “I stand alone.” How many have found one idol broken after another, one staff failing after another, one fountain dried after another–as they have traveled through the wilderness of this world.

We need much comfort and consolation in a world like this. It is no easy matter for a man to carry the cross —. There are many enemies to be encountered and overcome. We have often to stand alone. We have at the best times, few with us, and many against us. We need cordials and strong consolation to sustain and cheer us, and to preserve us from fainting on the way—.

If there is one who needs a friend, let that one behold an unfailing friend at the right hand of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let that one repose his aching head and weary heart upon the bosom of that unfailing friend, Jesus Christ the Lord.

There is one living at God’s right hand of matchless tenderness. There is one who . . .
  never dies.
  never fails,
  never disappoints,
  never forsakes,
  never changes His mind,
  never breaks off friendship.
That One, the Lord Jesus, I commend to all who need a friend.

No one in a world like this, a fallen world, a world which we find more and more barren, it may be, every year we live; no one ever need be friendless, while the Lord Jesus Christ lives.

Christian, you have a Friend who never slumbers and never sleeps–a Friend who cares for you morning, noon, and night.–J. C. Ryle

HERE IS MY GOD

December 3, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

“–My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness–” 2 Cor. 12:9

He was a wise man who said, “Rather than saying ‘God here is my problem’,we should put the problem into perspective by saying,’Problem, here is my God!” Indeed, we should introduce our problems to God. He is able to conquer everything that threatens us.

When we focus on our problem we get discouraged. But, when we shift our focus to God our view of the problems begin to shrink and we see them as manageable. However, it is not just our view that enables us to conquer our trials, as though we have the strength to overcome them. It is the greatness of God’s grace that provides the victory. Regardless of what you are facing today you can be assured that His grace is sufficient.

One man put it like this: “He comes to us in the brokenness of our health, in the shipwreck of our family lives, in the loss of all possible peace of mind, even in the very thick of our sins. He saves us in our disasters, not from them.”(Robert Capon).

That’s true. No one is exempt from problems, but everyone who puts their faith in Christ can have the assurance that God’s grace will be sufficent. After all, He who cannot lie has promised. I rest my weary soul soul on that. So can you!

DEALING WITH THE PAST

December 2, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

“Believe ye that I am able to do this?” (Matt. 9:28).

God deals with impossibilities. It is never too late for Him to do so, when the impossible is brought to Him, in full faith, by the one in whose life and circumstances the impossible must be accomplished if God is to be glorified. If in our own life there have been rebellion, unbelief, sin, and disaster, it is never too late for God to deal triumphantly with these tragic facts if brought to Him in full surrender and trust. It has often been said, and with truth, that Christianity is the only religion that can deal with man’s past. God can “restore the years that the locust hath eaten” (Joel 2:25); and He will do this when we put the whole situation and ourselves unreservedly and  believingly into His hands. Not because of what we are but because of what He is. God forgives and heals and restores. He is “the God of all grace.” Let us praise Him and trust Him.–Copied

FROM BOREDOM TO BLESSING

December 1, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Galatians 6:10 “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them of who are of the household of faith.”

The late Clovis Chappell told the story of a troubled man who lived without any sense of purpose. The man finally became so bored and bitter that he decided to end his life. He made his way to a pier and jumped into the sea. Fortunately he had a friend who had become suspicious and was watching. Seeing the man jump into the water, this friend leaped in after him.

It so happened that while the would-be suicide was an excellent swimmer, his friend couldn’t swim a stroke. Therefore, when the man attempting suicide saw his friend drowning for his sake, he went to his rescue. After a long hard struggle, he managed to save him. This experience proved to be such a thrill that the man decided that he wanted to live. Little by little his boredom vanished and joy was restored to his life, all because he had helped someone else and began to see a purpose in living.

Dear friend, if you feel fed-up with life, as though it is of no value, try shifting your focus to the needs of others. Make your life count for something important by reaching out to those in need. That’s the best way to find what you need. Remember—When you are good to others you are always best to yourself.

STRENGTH OUT OF WEAKNESS

November 30, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

…my strength is made perfect in weakness….2 Corinthians 12:9

David Jeremiah wrote:Trust is such a little word, but whom or what we place our trust in determines our response to adversity. When writing to the Corinthians, the apostle Paul uncomfortably shared personal information about trusting God with his most painful trial. We can be thankful he did; Paul’s attitude toward his pain is God’s purpose for our trials.

Three times Paul prayed for his thorn of suffering to be removed. Insert your own thorn — disease, financial set-back, heartache — into Paul’s story. When God said “No,” Paul humbly responded that he’d been given the gift of a handicap .Someone else suggested that Paul’s response would sound something like this, “At first I didn’t think of it as a gift… and then he told me, My grace is enough; it’s all you need. My strength comes into its own in your weakness. Once I heard that… I quit focusing on the handicap and began appreciating the gift. It was a case of Christ’s strength moving in on my weakness”—

Instead of focusing on your troubles, confidently entrust them to God as Paul did — and grow in strength.

As someone said:God is too wise to be mistaken. God is too good to be unkind. So when you don’t understand, when you don’t see His plan, when you can’t trace His hand, trust His heart.
