NO REGRETS

May 8, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night is cometh, when no man can work.-–John 9:4

Back in 1969, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were getting ready to go to the moon, and a reporter asked Armstrong, “When you’re on the moon, how many hours of life support do you have? Neil Armstrong replied, “Six hours of life support.”

So then the reporter asked Armstrong, “What if you discovered when you got on the moon that something was wrong and you couldn’t start up the engine to come back home? What would you do in those six hours you had remaining?”

Armstrong said, “I’d work on the engine!”

We don’t know how many hours we have left personally or prophetically. Today could be the day you meet Jesus either one-on-one or by Him returning. The end is always near. Our days on earth are short and until the end, therefore, we’re to work.

When you look back at the short time you’ve had here on this little blue planet, what will you think? Will you look back with regret over what you could have or should have done? Or will you see your life as being sold-out for Christ? Live each day full-out for Him so at the end, you’ll have no regrets!

LIVE EACH DAY FULL-OUT FOR JESUS CHRIST SO YOU’LL HAVE NO REGRETS WHEN YOUR TIME IS DONE! –Jack Graham

YOU CAN DEPEND ON GOD

May 7, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Behold the fowls of the air—your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? — Matthew 6:26

The famous missionary Hudson Taylor knew what it meant to trust in God’s faithfulness. In his journal he wrote:

Our heavenly Father is a very experienced One. He knows very well that His children wake up with a good appetite every morning…. He sustained 3 million Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years. We do not expect He will send 3 million missionaries to China; but if He did, He would have ample means to sustain them all…. Depend on it, God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.

As Christians living in a time and area of the world characterized by unprecedented wealth, it can be easy sometimes to take our attention off the fact that everything we have comes from God. Yet the truth is that we are just as dependent upon God for the shelter over our heads and the food on our plates as the poorest person who’s ever lived. We just tend to be less aware of it!

There are times, however, that you become keenly aware of your dependence on God for life. When it doesn’t look like there’s enough money in the bank… or when it seems like you won’t be able to cover your basic expenses, you’re forced into a place where you have no other choice than to trust that God is going to provide for you.

God knows your need. He knows when you’re struggling to make ends meet. He knows the stress that comes with uncertainty about whether or not your expenses will be covered. So take heart. He cares for His creation and will care for you, too!—-Ask God to drive you to a deeper dependence upon His faithfulness to provide for your every need.—From Senior Living

LENGTH OF LIFE IS FOR GOD TO DECIDE

May 6, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

I pray not that Thou shouldst take them out of the world. John 17:15

It is a sweet and blessed event which will occur to all believers in God’s own time-the going home to be with Jesus. In a few more years the Lord’s soldiers, who are now fighting “the good fight of faith” will have done with conflict, and have entered into the joy of their Lord. But although Christ prays that His people may eventually be with Him where He is, He does not ask that they may be taken at once away from this world to heaven. He wishes them to stay here. Yet how frequently does the wearied pilgrim put up the prayer, “O that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away and be at rest;” but Christ does not pray like that, He leaves us in His Father’s hands, until, like shocks of corn fully ripe, we shall each be gathered into our Master’s garner. Jesus does not plead for our instant removal by death, for to abide in the flesh is needful for others if not profitable for ourselves. He asks that we may be kept from evil, but He never asks for us to be admitted to the inheritance in glory till we are of full age. Christians often want to die when they have any trouble. Ask them why, and they tell you, “Because we would be with the Lord.” We fear it is not so much because they are longing to be with the Lord, as because they desire to get rid of their troubles; else they would feel the same wish to die at other times when not under the pressure of trial. They want to go home, not so much for the Saviour’s company, as to be at rest. Now it is quite right to desire to depart if we can do it in the same spirit that Paul did, because to be with Christ is far better, but the wish to escape from trouble is a selfish one. Rather let your care and wish be to glorify God by your life here as long as He pleases, even though it be in the midst of toil, and conflict, and suffering, and leave Him to say when “it is enough.”–Morning and Evening

HIS FACE

May 5, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

“Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come unto thee. Hide not thy face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline thine ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily. For my days are consumed like smoke, and my bones are burned as an hearth. My heart is smitten, and withered like grass; so that I forget to eat my bread.”—Psalm 102:1–4

Nearly everyone meets someone who makes a big impact on their life. I could mention several people who had a positive influence on me.For example, I’ll never forget spending a couple days with Dr. Lee Roberson and admiring his wisdom and warmeth. I was reminded of that when I read this following article by  Dr. Paul Chappell:

Dr. Lee Roberson once told the story of a young family who went through the tragic death of the young mother. The first night after the funeral service, the little daughter couldn’t sleep. She went to her father’s bedroom and asked if she could sleep with him. He agreed, and she climbed into bed. She still couldn’t sleep, and through the darkness her voice came, “Daddy, is your face turned toward me?”

All of us go through times when we wonder if there is anyone who cares about us. David knew that feeling when he was fleeing for his life to get away from Saul. He lamented: “No man cared for my soul” (Psalm 142:4). Yet no matter how alone we feel, even if those closest to us abandon us, God never turns away from us. There is nothing you can do that will change His love and compassion for you. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our salvation is the ultimate testimony to the depth of God’s love for us.

Today spend some time rejoicing and giving thanks for your salvation. When you do, you will find that the burdens of life are lighter, and your hope for the future is greater. Jesus cried out on the cross, “My God, my God why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46). His sacrifice to make atonement for your sins is all the guarantee that you will ever need that God’s face is toward you.

PROBLEMS AREN’T PERMANENT

May 4, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me–  (Micah 7:8).

One of the great difficulties in dealing with our problems is the feeling that they are permanent, but they’re not. That is another one of the Devil’s lies. He wants you to believe that things will never get better, but for the Christian they always do –it’s just a matter of time. For God’s children, the best is always yet to come. Speaking of our text, Charles Spurgeon said it well:

This may express the feelings of a man or woman downtrodden and oppressed. Our enemy may put out our light for a season. There is sure hope for us in the LORD; and if we are trusting in Him and holding fast our integrity, our season of downcasting and darkness will soon be over. The insults of the foe are only for a moment. The LORD will soon turn their laughter into lamentation and our sighing into singing.

What if the great enemy of souls should for a while triumph over us, as he has triumphed over better men than we are; yet let us take heart, for we shall overcome him before long. We shall rise from our fall, for our God has not fallen, and He will lift us up. We shall not abide in darkness, although for the moment we sit in it; for our LORD is the fountain of light, and He will soon bring us a joyful day. Let us not despair or even doubt. One turn of the wheel, and the lowest will be at the top. Woe unto those who laugh now, for they shall mourn and weep when their boasting is turned into everlasting contempt. But blessed are all holy mourners, for they shall be divinely comforted.
