MOTHERS

May 13, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Someone said, “A mother’s lap is the best place form which to launch a life”. That is so true. Birth is just the beginning and what happens after that is determined by many factors, non of which are as important as the mother’s ministry. There is simply no way to describe the importance of godly mothers.

Charles Spurgeon once said of his mother, “I cannot tell how much I owe to the prayers of my good mother. I remember her once praying, ‘Now Lord, if my children go on in sin it will not be from ignorance that they perish, and my soul must bear swift witness against them at the day of judgment if they lay not hold on Christ and claim Him as their personal Savior.’” Obviously that was a woman who did her job well.

As we celebrate and honor our mothers today, we need to consider the importance of mothers in a child’s life. Mothers are an important part of every child’s life. While a child needs the protection and provision of a father, they also need the loving compassion of a mother–no one can take her place! Mothers often have greater impacts on their children than any other person. The godly mother deserves all the honor and praise that we can give her.It is my heart-felt prayer that each mother will have a most blessed Mother’s Day. God bless you!

HOW TO LOVE YOUR MOTHER

May 12, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

How precious is the mother’s reward of seeing her children grow to be godly men or women, honoring God with their time, talent, and treasure. Is there any better evidence of a godly mother’s love and sacrifice?

It becomes so easy in America to use Mother’s Day as a quick remedy to attempt to salve all the shortcomings in the mother-child relationship. But it takes more than cards, calls, and flowers to properly love a mother.

When is the last time you hugged your mother? When is the last time you planted a kiss on her soft cheek and told her, sincerely told her, that you love her? There are many ways to express love and gratitude to a mother, but there is no better way to reward a godly mother than to grow to become the follower of Christ she long envisioned.

Mothers sometimes are not only the sole source of all cooking and home maintenance in a child’s life, but many also serve as breadwinners. Sometimes mothers are the only reason some children ever see the inside of a church.

It is wonderful to set aside a day especially for remembering our mothers, but it pleases the Lord when we show them constant love. One of the last things Christ did before His death was make sure His mother was well cared for by the apostle John. Is there any more touching evidence of what a mother should mean?–Charles Stanley

WAIT WHILE GOD WORKS

May 11, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Be still–and know that I am God! Psalm 46:10

This is God’s message to His people, even during the most terrible convulsions of nature, the most cruel wars, and the most painful trials! The Lord reigns and works, even in the most dreadful circumstances.

The Lord is constantly doing His will, and accomplishing His purposes–and He never forgets His promises.

Be childlike. Run to your Father’s arms and nestle in His bosom! Realize safety in your Father’s love and power. He will tenderly . . .
hold you in the hollow of His hand,
hide you under His wings, and
carry you in His bosom as the shepherd does the lamb.

“Be still,” for though painful at present–your trial will soon be over. Know that God is supreme and works all things after the counsel of His own will. Know that God never loses sight of you, or forgets your frame and your weakness. Exercise patience, relieve your burdened heart by prayer–and wait in full expectation of a blessing.

As the darkest cloud, often bears the most fruitful shower–so the darkest circumstances, often usher in the choicest mercies. Only . . .
  yield yourself to God,
keep close to the loving heart of God,
and submit to the will of God.
Then you will be able to . . .
  carry any cross,
  bear any trial, or
  endure any affliction!

Be silent, be calm, be still–the Lord rules as King forever!

Do not complain–for it will displease the Lord.
Do not murmur–for it will grieve Him.
Do not fear–for it will dishonor Him.

Instead, be still–for your safety is provided for.
Be still–for your needs shall be supplied.
Be still–for all things shall work together for your good.
Be still–for God bids you, and all will end well.

Take me into Your nearness, dear Lord, and help me to be still. Calm my foolish fears and my fearful imaginations. In all of life, help me, O Lord, to be still. –James Smith

FEAR ONLY GOD

May 10, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me   (Hebrews 13:6). Because God will never leave nor forsake us, we may well be content with such things as we have. Since the LORD is ours, we cannot be left without a friend, a treasure, and a dwelling place. This assurance may make us feel quite independent of men. Under such high patronage we do not feel tempted to cringe before our fellowmen and ask of them permission to call our lives our own; but what we say we boldly say and defy contradiction.

He who fears God has nothing else to fear. We should stand in such awe of the living LORD that all the threats that can be used by the proudest persecutor should have no more effect upon us than the whistling of the wind. Man in these days cannot do so much against us as he could when the apostle wrote the verse at the head of this page. Racks and stakes are out of fashion. Giant Pope cannot burn the pilgrims now. If the followers of false teachers try cruel mockery and scorn, we do not wonder at it, for the men of this world cannot love the heavenly seed. What then? We must bear the world’s scorn. It breaks no bones. God helping us, let us be bold; and when the world rages, let it rage, but let us not fear it.—From, “Faith’s Checkbook”, by C.H. Spurgeon

PEACE THROUGH THE BLOOD

May 9, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

An awareness of our sinfulness puts us in a fearful state of mind, and for good reason –sin must be punished. On the other hand, the acceptance of our Savior produces a greater peace than anything we’ve ever known. The reason for this perfect peace was explained by John Flavel many years ago:

Speaking of the death of Christ he said-— and did he die the violent, painful, shameful, cursed, slow, and lonely death of the cross? Then surely there is forgiveness with God, plenteous redemption for the greatest of sinners, who by faith apply the blood of the cross to their poor guilty souls.

There is sufficient power in the blood of the cross to wash away the greatest sins. Before the efficacy of this blood, guilt vanishes and shrinks away as the shadow before the glorious sun. Every drop of it has a voice, and speaks to the soul that sits trembling under its guilt better things than the blood of Abel. For having enough in it to satisfy God, it must needs have enough in it to satisfy conscience.

Can God exact satisfaction from the blood and death of his own Son, the surety of believers, and yet still demand it from believers? It cannot be.
