SUICIDES

September 28, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

The headline read: “More Americans now commit suicide than are killed in car crashes as miserable economy takes its toll”. That is the most shocking headline I’ve read in a long time. It’s hard to imagine! More people kill themselves than are killed in car wrecks–that just doesn’t sound right. The study was over the decade ending in 2009. It showed that suicide was up over 15%, with more than 37,000 Americans taking their lives in 2009. And experts say,”Suicides are terribly under-counted”, so who knows what the number actually is. I suspect the figures for 2010-2012 are much higher. So it’s actually worse than the study indicates.

While the bad economy plays a role in this there are many other factors. But, I believe the root of the problem is of a spiritual nature. We have numerous agencies and organizations, and have spend millions trying to stop this epidemic, but it keeps getting worse. More people died from suicide than in the Iraq War and the war in Afghanistan during that time frame! e can blame the economy and a dozen other things, but the root of the problem is spiritual. Man was not meant to live apart from God and in rebellion against God. Without a personal relationship with Christ every area of our life is affected.

We live in a day that is not unlike the days of Noah when “the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and –every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”(Gen. 6:5). I’m no expert, but that sounds like insanity to me. Anytime a person lives without any regard for God and is continually thinking of nothing but evil something is terribly wrong.

It is sad to see so many people giving up on life–it doesn’t have to be that way. Life can be wonderful if you receive Christ as your Lord and Savior. If you are unsaved, you are not solving your problems by taking your life. You are making things much worse — worse than you know. As long as you are alive there’s a chance for you to be saved, but hell awaits every unbeliever the moment they die.

We would do almost anything to avoid a car wreck or to stay out of a war, why wouldn’t we make the same effort to stop these senseless suicides? If you know of someone who is distraught and threatening to take their life reach out to them. Tell them of Christ, in whom they can find forgiveness, eternal life, hope and heaven. Knowing Him gives you something worth living for!

FAITH BUILDING FACTS

November 17, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“God, even our own God, shall bless us.” Psalms 67:6
We live in tough times so we can expect difficult days, perplexing problems, and physical pain. At times it seems that everything is against us and nobody is for us. It is for this very reason that we must focus on God and His exceeding great and precious promises—doing so increases our faith and lifts our spirit. It helps us focus on the facts rather than our feelings. Our text this morning is one such example of what we to remember. Of this verse James Smith wrote:

“He has pledged Himself to do so in His word, and He delights to make good His promise. He is our God by covenant, by a spiritual birth, through Christ Jesus, and at our own desire, request, and consent. He is the great God who fills heaven and earth; the all-sufficient God, who has all resources in Himself; the unchanging God, who is eternally the same. He espouseth the quarrel of His people, He dignifies and ennobles them, and proves Himself gracious and merciful unto them. He blesseth them indeed; and if others curse, He turneth the curse into a blessing. We may rest fully assured of this pleasing fact, “God, even our own God, will bless us.” He has done so in Christ before time, He has promised to do so through time, and when time shall be no more. He will bless us in temporals and spirituals, He will bless us wherever we are. Let us believe the fact, and plead for its realization in our experience; this will embolden us in danger, fortify us against fear, and keep us in perfect peace. Let us trust in Him, and He will bless us, and so shall we rejoice in Him.”

Rise, my soul, with ardour rise!
Breathe thy wishes to the skies;
Freely pour out all thy mind,
Seek, and thou art sure to find;
Ready art thou to receive,
Readier is thy God to give.

OSTEEN’S OPPORTUNITY

September 23, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Well here we go again. Here’s another example of Joel Osteen’s ignorance of the Bible. Go to this link http://www.bibleprophecyblog.com/2012/09/staying-in-his-lanejoel-osteens-gospel.html#  and read the sad story of a man given a nationwide platform to affirm what the Bible teaches and doesn’t have the guts to speak the truth.

If you wonder why I continue to point out his faults and false teachings the answer is simple. He has a following of thousands who are being deceived and led astray. And every preacher has an obligation to “earnestly contend for the faith”( Jude 3) and denounce sin wherever it is found. He might remain silent on these issues I won’t. He is wrong and his followers need to be warned. I am not going to sit back and listen to people brag about what a great pastor he is when he is doing so much damage to the cause of Christ. If you have friends who are followers of Osteen you need to warn them about the danger involved in trusting him.

SHELTER FROM THE STORM

November 16, 2014 By Pastor David Stone

“But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her , and pulled her in unto him into the ark.”–Gen. 8:9

One night in a home by the sea, the family sat around the evening lamp. Within, all was peace; without, however, the storm was wild. Rain and sleet beat against the windows. During the evening, one of the group heard a strange fluttering outside one of the windows. Making careful examination, it was found that there was a little bird flapping its wings against the pane. It had been caught in the storm, and was unable to find shelter. The light in the window had attracted it, and there it was beating against the glass. Quickly the window was opened, and the little thing flew in, drenched and faint—but happy and safe. Inside it found shelter, light, warmth, and food.

Often there are lives among us, like the bird caught in earth’s storms, swept by temptation, by sorrow, or by passion; defeated, weary, with no shelter. For all such, the only refuge is in the heart of God, under the shadow of the wings of divine love. There the weary heart finds all it craves of refuge, love, warmth, joy, and satisfaction. Flying to the window of the divine ark—a strong, gentle hand draws it in.–J. R. Miller

As soon as I read this I began to think of this song—- perhaps you should:

  1. Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
    Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
    Jesus ready stands to save you,
    Full of pity, love and pow’r.
    • Refrain:
      I will arise and go to Jesus,
      He will embrace me in His arms;
      In the arms of my dear Savior,
      Oh, there are ten thousand charms.
  2. Come, ye thirsty, come, and welcome,
    God’s free bounty glorify;
    True belief and true repentance,
    Every grace that brings you nigh.
  3. Come, ye weary, heavy-laden,
    Lost and ruined by the fall;
    If you tarry till you’re better,
    You will never come at all.
  4. View Him prostrate in the garden;
    On the ground your Maker lies;
    On the bloody tree behold Him;
    Sinner, will this not suffice?
  5. Lo! th’ incarnate God ascended,
    Pleads the merit of His blood:
    Venture on Him, venture wholly,
    Let no other trust intrude.
  6. Let not conscience make you linger,
    Not of fitness fondly dream;
    All the fitness He requireth
    Is to feel your need of Him.

DOOMED?

September 21, 2012 By Pastor David Stone

Here is an interesting article. Although no one knows the future, and the experts can be wrong, the very fact that intelligent people see America’s collapse as a possibility, and some as a probability, should be cause for concern. The worst thing we can do is to believe that it can’t happen and do nothing. I don’t know if our best effort can stop our down-hill slide, but I do know we don’t stand a chance if we do nothing.Think about it!
