MORNING MANNA         2-29-24

FAITH OR “IT”?

“According to your faith be it unto you”.- Matthew 9:29.

“According to your faith be it…” Be what? How much does “it” include? Here is one of the smallest and one of the biggest words—small in the dictionary but large in our text! For “it” includes all our need which God will supply according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. And the measure of that supply is “according to your faith.” You may have all you need and all that faith will take. Whether that need be trivial or tremendous makes no difference to God—everything is His, anyway. You need not mind bringing to Him the simplest matter. The sparrow’s fall does not escape His notice. Nor will you strain the heavenly resources with a stupendous request. The ocean will hold up a boat or a battleship, and God’s grace will stand any weight you put on it.

So, whatever “it” may be that you are facing, no matter how hard or hopeless “it” may seem, do not let “it” dominate your faith, make “it” submit to your faith. “According to your faith be it” is God’s yardstick, not “According to it be your faith.”

Are you living by the tyranny of “it” or by the Triumph of Faith?

GOD FREELY GIVES
“He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” –Romans 8:32

About 57 years ago I purchased a little paperback book entitled “Faith’s Checkbook”, by Charles Spurgeon. It quickly became one of my favorities because it is filled with nuggets of truth such as the following comments on our text::

“If this is not a promise in form, it is in fact. Indeed, it is more than one promise, it is a conglomerate of promises. It is a mass of rubies, and emeralds, and diamonds, with a nugget of gold for their setting. It is a question which can never be answered so as to cause us any anxiety of heart. What can the LORD deny us after giving us Jesus? If we need all things in heaven and earth, He will grant them to us: for if there had been a limit anywhere, He would have kept back His own Son.

What do I want today? I have only to ask for it. I may seek earnestly, but not as if I had to use pressure and extort an unwilling gift from the LORD’s hand; for He will give freely. Of His own He gave us His own Son. Certainly no one would have proposed such a gift to Him. No one would have ventured to ask for it. It would have been too presumptuous. He freely gave His Only-begotten, and, O my soul, canst thou not trust thy heavenly Father to give thee anything, to give thee everything? Thy poor prayer would have no force with Omnipotence if force were needed; but His love, like a spring, rises of itself and overflows for the supply of all thy needs.”

This doesn’t mean God will grant every foolish thing we might desire. He is too wise to do that. However, we can have blessed assurance that we will receive whatever is for our good and His glory. That ought to produce peace in your heart. No one is earning their way with God–what we receive is “freely given”, a gift of grace. It would do us good to start everyday and face every problem with this in mind. It’s hard to have a bad day when you have such a precious promise.- HDS

GOD IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:8, 9

It will never be possible in this life for finite man to fully comprehend God Who is infinite. This is part of the great adventure of life – learning to know God Who is so wonderful that we will never know Him completely. One of the common mistakes of man is to think that God is like us in His attributes and character. Normally, we do not think like God, feel like God, or see things the way He does. We certainly do not always know what God is doing or why He is doing it. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. We all have heard people question and blame God concerning certain events as though we know better than God. In reality, God is often doing things or allowing things for purposes that we do not fully comprehend. God is so mighty, so immense, and so perfect that we will never exhaust the need to continue in our lifelong pursuit of knowing Him.

We are introduced to the Almighty Creator and Sustainer of the universe at the time of salvation. The unconverted man cannot know Him nor understand His ways. The natural man cannot receive the things of God nor can he know them because they must be spiritually discerned. When we were without Christ, we did not have the capacity to know God. We could learn things about God, but we could not have a personal relationship with Him. When a person is born again, he is instantly indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God Who is with us to teach us and guide us into truth. The Spirit of God enables us to understand spiritual reality.

As Christians, we are instructed to “grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” (II Peter 3:18). The more we read and learn about God in the Bible, the more we comprehend about His character and His ways. One reason that this should be a priority in our lives is because God wants us to become more like Him. Throughout our lives, we exchange our views and opinions for His truth, and our ways for His ways. Though we will never fully know Him in this life, our purpose is to increase in the knowledge of God and grow in our understanding of Him.– Thomas Smith

MORNING MANNA           2-26-24
As I reflect upon the needs of people that I care about and pray for them, I often think about this wonderful poem that has helped me so many times. I hope it will be a blessing to you and that you will refer to it often. Also, please notice the scriptures upon which the poem was based.

One Day at a Time

One day at a time, with its failures and fears,
With its hurts and mistakes, with its weakness and tears,
With its portion of pain and its burden of care;

One day at a time we must meet and must bear.

One day at a time to be patient and strong,
To be calm under trial and sweet under wrong;
Then its toiling shall pass and its sorrow shall cease;
It shall darken and die, and the night shall bring peace.

One day at a time – but the day is so long,
And the heart is not brave, and the soul is not strong,
O Thou pitiful Christ, be Thou near all the way;
Give courage and patience and strength for the day.

Swift cometh His answer, so clear and so sweet;
“Yea, I will be with thee, thy troubles to meet;
I will not forget thee, nor fail thee, nor grieve;
I will not forsake thee; I never will leave.”

Not yesterday’s load we are called on to bear,
Nor the morrow’s uncertain and shadowy care;
Why should we look forward or back with dismay?
Our needs, as our mercies, are but for the day.

One day at a time, and the day is His day;
He hath numbered its hours, though they haste or delay.
His grace is sufficient; we walk not alone;
As the day, so the strength that He giveth His own.

By Annie Johnson Flint

Deut. 33:25 …and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.

2Cor. 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

WAIT

” And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.”-Isa.30:18

We must not only think of our waiting upon God, but also of what is more wonderful still, of God’s waiting upon us. The vision of Him waiting on us, will give new impulse and inspiration to our waiting upon Him. It will give us unspeakable confidence that our waiting cannot be in vain. Let us seek even now, at this moment, in the spirit of waiting on God, to find out something of what it means.

He has inconceivably glorious purposes concerning every one of His children. And you ask, “How is it, if He waits to be gracious, that even after I come and wait upon Him, He does not give the. help I seek, but waits on longer and longer?” God is a wise husbandman, “who waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it.” He cannot gather the fruit till it is ripe. He knows when we are spiritually ready to receive the blessing to our profit and His glory. Waiting in the sunshine of His love is what will ripen the soul for His blessing. Waiting under the cloud of trial, that breaks in showers of blessings, is as needful.

Be assured that if God waits longer than you could wish, it is only to make the blessing doubly precious. God waited four thousand years, till the fullness of time, ere He sent His Son. Our times are in His hands; He will avenge His elect speedily; He will make haste for our help, and not delay one hour too long.–Andrew Murray
