MORNING MANNA         2-24-24

February 24, 2024 By Pastor David Stone

FATHOMLESS, BOUNDLESS, AND INEXHAUSTIBLE!

Christ is wonderful in His love. Love was the first and eternal link in the golden chain lowered from the highest throne in heaven down to the lowest depth of earth. That Christ should love us was the beginning of wonders. When we endeavor to comprehend that love, measure it, fathom it, scale it-we learn that it has heights we cannot reach, depths we cannot sound, lengths and breadths we cannot measure! Such love, such divine love, such infinite love, such everlasting love, such redeeming, dying love, is an ocean whose eternal waves waft into our fallen world every wonder of God and of heaven.

That Jesus should love such beings as us-that He should love us while we were yet sinners-that He should set His heart upon us, choose us, die for us, call us, and finally bring us to glory, knowing what we were, and what we would prove to be-oh, this is wondrous love indeed! Plunge into this fathomless, boundless Ocean of love, O sin-burdened one! It will cover all your sins, it will efface all your guilt; it will flood over all your unworthiness-and, floating upon its golden waves, it will gently waft you to the shore of eternal blessedness!

How often have you wondered why Christ should set His heart upon such a one as you! And is it not a wonder that, amid all your fickleness and backslidings and cold, base returns, this love of God towards you has not chilled or changed? But do not rest, do not be satisfied with your present limited experience of Christ’s wonderful love. It is so marvelously great. This Ocean of love is so fathomless, boundless, and inexhaustible, you may plunge, with all your infirmities, sins, and sorrows, into its fullness, exclaiming, “O, the depth!” The well is deep! Drink abundantly, O beloved!–Octavius Winslow (1808-1878)

MORNING MANNA           2-23-24

CHANGED BY CHRIST

“And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.”- Luke 5:25–26

When people truly meet Jesus, it is a transforming experience. The man who had been paralyzed and unable to walk immediately got up when Jesus told him to do so. This is such a wonderful picture of our salvation. Prior to coming to Christ, we had no power or ability to do what was right. We were crippled by sin, and unable to help ourselves in any way. But the power of Jesus to save changes everything.

We see another great illustration of this truth in the life of Lazarus. Jesus waited until His friend was dead and buried before traveling to Bethany. When He went to the grave, Jesus wept for the sorrow and grief of His friends and their loss. Then He commanded Lazarus to rise from the dead—and he did! The resurrection of Lazarus was a miracle that the enemies of Jesus could not explain. “But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus” (Luke 12:10–11).

Our lives are meant to be testimonies to the power and grace of God. There should be evidence that is clear to everyone around us that we are no longer the same as we were before we met Jesus. Too often, Christians settle into a pattern of living just like the world around them rather than walking in the new life they have been given. If we are going to have an impact on the world, there must be clear evidence that we have been given a life-changing gift that can only be attributed to Divine power. The way we live each day should be irrefutable evidence of God’s power to change lives forever.-copied

THINK ABOUT IT             2-22-24
FUTURE FOCUSED

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”- 1 Thess.5:18
When I read the following the text above immediately came to my mind. “After the 1991 military coup in Haiti, the international community imposed an embargo on the tiny Caribbean nation. Life for many Haitians became a daily struggle for survival.

A missionary told me about a Christian woman who stood up in a meeting and prayed, “We thank You, Lord, for the embargo. It has taught us to depend more fully on You. And it has given us a greater longing for heaven.”

Those believers were able to live joyfully, though weak and undernourished, because they kept their eyes of faith focused on the riches and glory they would one day receive in heaven.

We who enjoy comfortable houses and have plenty of food could learn from our Haitian brothers and sisters who live in one of the poorest countries of the world. We need to look at life with an eternal perspective.

I anticipate the time when all sin and pain and sorrow will have ended. I am troubled by all the suffering and evil in the world. But I’m sure those Haitian believers who were sick and hungry, and who sometimes lived under the fear of being killed, had a greater sense of anticipation than I do.Lord, help us view life in light of eternity, even when things are going well.”

Please read 2Cor.4:8-18 and you will see that Paul endured his great trials by keeping his thoughts on the treasures awaiting him in heaven. He lived in the light of eternity, and we should do the same.- HDS

MORNING MANNA            2-20-24

 OUR CONSTANT COMPANION
“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”-Isa.43:2

Is there any heart discouraged as it journeys on its way?Does there seem to be more darkness than there is of sunny day?Oh, it’s hard to learn the lesson, as we pass beneath the rod,That the sunshine and the shadow serve alike the will of God!But there comes a word of promise like the promise in the bow—That, however deep the waters, they shall never overflow. When the flesh is worn and weary, and the spirit is depressed,And temptations sweep upon it, like a storm on ocean’s breast,There’s a haven ever open for the tempest-driven bird,There’s shelter for the tempted in the promise of the Word; For the standard of the Spirit shall be raised against the foe,And, however deep the waters, they shall never overflow. When a sorrow comes upon you that no other soul can share,And the burden seems too heavy for the human heart to bear; There is One whose grace can comfort, if you’ll give Him an abode; There’s a Burden-Bearer ready if you’ll trust Him with your load; For the precious promise reaches to the depth of human woe,That, however deep the waters, they shall never overflow. When the sands of life are ebbing, and I near the Jordan’s shore,When I see its waters rising And I hear its billows roar,I will reach my hand to Jesus, in His bosom I shall hide,And ‘twill only be a moment till I reach the other side.It is then the fullest meaning of the promise I shall know.“When thou passest through the waters, they shall never overflow.”

CHRISTIAN JOY
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again, Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4

Just so, “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing,” says Paul, speaking of his own experience.

The believer’s joy does not exclude sorrow, but . . .
  attends it,
  sustains under it,
  and raises above it.

Joy in the Lord should be constant–for He is the same.
There is as much ground for joy in Him in the winter of adversity–as in the summer of prosperity.
He is as good when he chides us–as when He comforts us.
He is as gracious when He lays us low–as when He raises us up.
He is as kind when He takes away–as when He gives.

If our joy springs chiefly from creature good and agreeable circumstances–then it must be fluctuating at the best, and at times it will entirely dry up. But if our chief joy is in God, then the spring of it never fails!

“When all created streams are dried,
 His fullness is the same!”

Observe, my soul, that joy in the Lord is not only encouraged–but commanded.
After once giving the admonition, the apostle says, “Again I say, Rejoice.”

The Lord would have His children . . .
  happy in His love,
restful under the shelter of His wings,
and peaceful in the midst of storms.

Seek then to know more of Him, live upon His fullness, dwell on His unchanging grace–and so will you be joyful in Him even in the midst of tribulation! Author unknown, 1872
