MORNING MANNA            1–8-26

January 8, 2026 By Pastor David Stone

MORNING MANNA                1-8-26
WHO ARE WE DEPENDING ON?

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭7‬

Seems like many Christians confess and relate to one another about a tendency to depend on ourselves instead of the Lord. Less often do we seem to admit if our prayer life is weak. The conflicting thing about this is, our prayer life is a picture of our dependence upon the Lord.

God commands us to pray and to ask. This is guidance from God, that we might grow in full dependence upon Him and abandon depending upon ourselves.

The Bible says “ye have not, because ye ask not.” Can you imagine God giving us everything without any request from us? If He did, we wouldn’t depend on Him at all. We draw close to the Lord when we pray. “Pray without ceasing” is what we read in scripture. Prayer is to be a continual, natural action and reaction daily. We’re to take big things, small things, and all things to God in prayer, because everything is important to Him.

Could we ever imagine while Jesus carried out His earthly ministry saying, “Well, it’s time to take my disciples out into a storm at sea to teach them about faith. I think it will go well. I don’t need to pray about it first.”
or
“I’m going to witness of my salvation to the woman at the well, but I know what to say, I don’t need to call on the Father for this one.” No. I can’t imagine Jesus, who commands us to pray, not faithfully carrying out His own commands. He did!
– When Jesus came to the garden of Gethsemane, he said,” Sit ye hear, while I go and pray yonder.”
– John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted his eyes to heaven, and said, Father…
– John 17:9 “I pray for them” Jesus says.
– John 17:15 “I pray…. that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.”
– The entire 17th chapter of John is Jesus praying!

As God’s people, may we stop trying to take care of things ourselves. Let’s pray and ask Him. In doing so, we will be picturing dependence upon Him.

WHO ARE WE DEPENDING ON?

ALL OVER DECEMBER 26TH

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭8

Can’t recall who was with me in the car, but while driving down the road on a summer day, the radio was on a Christian station and a Christian choir was singing. The passenger strangely responded, “This sounds like Christmas music.” It wasn’t a Christmas Carol, but a song we sing all the time to the Lord. This inspired a really deep thought :

For some, Christmas is ALL OVER DECEMBER 26TH, for others, it never ends! It’s continual.

Think about it! We rejoice in a wonderful Savior every day! We wake up and talk to Him, lay our petitions before Him, and thank Him for His new mercies.

A lot of folks come around Christianity throughout December, and we can be glad they do, because maybe one December they’ll never leave. Then, Christmas will quit being about just a season and become salvation.

Oh what continual Christmas joy it is to be a child of God!
This Sunday, December 28th, it’s not all over. We’ll meet again, give praise, honor, and glory to the King as we worship Him, Jesus, our Lord and Savior! – Kenneth Preston

PEACE IS POSSIBLE

“Let not your heart be troubled—Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you—“ John 14:1, 27

Sometimes we act as though we have no control over our lives–peace doesn’t seem possible, but the little word “Let” tells us otherwise. Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled”. So, if you are truly a child of God peace is possible. The choice is yours.

Jesus didn’t say, “Keep yourself from trouble”. That would be impossible. “Man that is born of a woman Is of few days, and full of trouble.” Job‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬ . However, although we will have trouble, we don’t have to be troubled by our troubles. Maybe you are thinking, “That doesn’t seem possible”. But, who are you going to believe–yourself or the Lord? Jesus promised that peace is possible and Paul proved it is possible (Phil. 4:11). If you will just admit that it’s possible you will have come a long, long way. Most of our fear and worry is caused by a feeling of hopelessness. But if you can just see that peace really is possible you will be encouraged to pursue it.

Regardless of what you are going through, and contrary to the way you might feel, peace is possible. Christ always provides what He promises! Get into the Word and find out what He says and then trust Him to do as He promised. That’s the path to peace. I’m not asking you to believe me. I’m begging you to trust the One who “cannot lie”. When you do amazing things happen.”Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee, because he trusteth in thee.”(Isaiah 26:3)- HDS

A FAMILY CHRISTMAS

“Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; That walketh in his ways.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭128‬:‭1‬ ‭

As we celebrate the birth of Christ today, most of us will do so with family. A wise man made a list of what he would do more of if he could live his life over again. It’s a good checklist for us to implement today, so the list will be changed to the present tense :

– I will love my family more.

– I will laugh with my family more.

– I will listen to my family more.

– I will pray for my family more.

– I will enjoy my family instead of examining them by being a grace giver, not a fault finder.

– I will be more honest about my own weaknesses.

– I will share the Lord Jesus Christ more intimately with my family.

If we do this, we will walk in His ways today and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!- Kenneth Preston

MORNING MANNA                   12-24-25

THE GIFT OF THE DAY

“Boast not thyself of to morrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭1‬

Well, we’re here. We made it to Christmas Eve. Will we make it to Christmas Day? We can’t say for sure. We would like to, but we don’t know.

The reason for mentioning this is to emphasize the fact that every single day is a gift. We keep making it through yesterday’s, so we assume, maybe take it for granted, that tomorrow will become a yesterday for us. To assume this will keep us from living as thankfully as we should, and as productive for the Lord as we could. As we consider the uncertainty of tomorrow, may we live to please the Lord and be the greatest help and blessing to others today.

THE GIFT OF THE DAY is today. God has gifted us with it.

There are many unsaved people who live in this very dangerous pattern of thinking. There are people we love who know they need Jesus Christ to save them, but they put Him off another day, day after day. They think since they made it through yesterday there will be a tomorrow. If you have procrastinated placing faith in Jesus Christ, we hope and pray you will do so today. Tomorrow is too uncertain to wait and see. It could be eternally too late. There is a gift for you today. The greatest gift you could ever receive is to be saved by Jesus Christ!

Praying you all have a wonderful day – Kenneth Preston
