MORNING MANNA              11-12-25

November 12, 2025 By Pastor David Stone

John Newton wrote many hymns in addition to Amazing Grace – about 200 it seems. Here is one that gives some good food for thought to start the day. HDS

The manna favored Israel’s meat Manna Hoarded
John Newton, 1779,
from Olney Hymns, vol.1, hymn 16

The manna favored Israel’s meat,
Was gathered day by day;
When all the host was served, the heat Melted the rest away.

2. In vain to hoard it up they tried, Against tomorrow came;
It then bred worms and putrefied,
And proved their sin and shame.

3. ‘Twas daily bread and would not keep, But must be still renewed;Faith should not want a hoard or heap, But trust the Lord for food.

4. The truths by which the soul is fed, Must thus be had afresh;
For notions resting in the head,
Will only feed the flesh.

5. However true, they have no life,
Or unction to impart;
They breed the worms of pride and strife, But cannot cheer the heart.

6. Nor can the best experience past, The life of faith maintain;
The brightest hope will faint at last, Unless supplied again.

7. Dear Lord, while we in prayer are found, Do thou the Manna give;
O! let it fall on all around,
That we may eat and live.

MORNING MANNA                   11-11-25
JESUS IS COMING!

“and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Do you believe a Christian should be baptized? You should because the bible mentions it 20 times.

Do you believe repentance is an important part of the Christian’s life? Well, the New Testament alone speaks of it 70 times, so it surely is.

Let’s compare those numbers to the amount of times we find the second coming of Jesus Christ in the New Testament alone. It’s found 380 times! That averages out to it being mentioned 1 out of every 24 verses.

The Bible contains the gospel message of salvation in Jesus Christ by which we are saved, and also contains the promise over and over that Jesus Christ is returning. He will not break that promise!

How much time do we devote to His second coming?

How might we think of this blessed future event more often?

If we looked up one verse a day for the next year which promises the return of Jesus, we would still have over two weeks worth of passages on the glorious subject to search out!

– What great hope, excitement, and encouragement it would give us!

A GOOD MINISTER
“If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.” 1 Timothy 4:6

Of all the men who have lived since Christ, Paul is the man I would most like to sit at his feet and learn from. Imagine that! There would be no falling asleep in that class, that’s for sure.

Here in our text we find Paul advising Timothy. Actually he is providing instruction for all believers, because every child of God is to be “a good minister”(servant). There are a lot of church members doing nothing, but there are no members with nothing to do. We all have our assignments. How well we do them depends on whether or not we are “nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine”. Sadly, too many are under-nourished.

Here’s the point. The late Ray Stedman said,”What do you feed on daily? What do you put in your mind? What is your habitual input in your life? The sports pages, perhaps? Soap operas? The Dow Jones Averages? TV movies? Best-seller novels? If any of these things are your daily diet, then I can guarantee you will be a spiritually undernourished servant of Jesus Christ, because the apostle makes clear that what you feed on is what is going to determine how effective you become.”

He was right, but please don’t misunderstand this. I’m not talking about entirely eliminating all of these things, as though they were sinful. I’m talking about regulating, not removing things. Even sinless things can become sinful when they distract us from our duty. For the Christian nothing is more important than the teachings of God’s Word. It is our “daily bread”. We should feel like Job, who said,”I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.”(Job 23:12).

To be a good servant we must discover God’s will and do it. To be a good servant you must first be a good student. Are you? The learning is for the living! It’s my prayer that you will feed on God’s Word and follow God’s will. That will make you “a good minister of Jesus Christ.”-HDS

HURTING GOD

“…grieve not the Holy Spirit of God…”. Eph.4:30

It’s easy to imagine how God, with all his power could hurt us, but have you ever thought about the possibility of puny man hurting God? Well, that’s exactly what we do when we grieve Him. Years ago I read the following story illustrates what our attitude should be.

Some boys were tempting a young lad to pull a prank with them. The three young men taunted the other lad: “Come on, do this with us. Nobody will find out.”
Finally, the boy mentioned his father. So they taunted him further. They said, “Oh, you’re just afraid because if your father finds out he might hurt you!” And the boy looked back at the others and said, “No, I’m afraid if he finds out, it’ll hurt him.”
The more you fear God-the more you spend time in His presence-the more you dread displeasing Him. His presence in our lives shouldn’t be a heavy yoke around our necks. But we need to have a healthy dread of displeasing or hurting or disappointing Him.

If you could stand before God today in His throne room and watch a video of your life with Him, would there be a smile on His face? Would He be nodding His head in approval, saying, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant?” Would you like to have the confidence right now that God is smiling? You can…by beginning to respect Him, to practice the presence of God daily and to make your choices on the basis of what pleases Him.

Think about that and determine in your heart that, by His grace, you will glorify God rather than grieve Him. – HDS

MORNING MANNA             11-7-25
ACCOMPLISHING WHAT SEEMS UNLIKELY

Acts Ch. 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

We all have a list of things which seem unlikely to accomplish. There’s something good we would like to do for God, some struggle we need to make it through, but the doubtful thoughts leave us feeling as though we can’t succeed.

Consider the apostles. They were commanded to go into all the world with a message about a man out of Nazareth crucified by Roman soldiers, and proclaim him to be the Savior of the world. This group was made up of some who were fishermen, most of them had little education, and were of low financial status. They didn’t come from prominent families of power or position.

It gets worse, many would come against them who did have impressive credentials in the world’s eyes.

However, the apostles accomplished mission impossible in the power of the Lord. They pressed forward in unfavorable circumstances. They set out to do what they didn’t feel they could get done. They heralded the message of the gospel in the midst of much resistance and souls were saved by this man out of Nazareth. The Church accomplished great things for the glory of God and grew!

There is most likely something on our “unlikely to accomplish “ list this morning we are thinking of right now, but the Lord wants us to be encouraged by the story of the great things he left these everyday men to do. They accomplished what seemed unlikely, and in the power of the Lord, we can too!- Kenneth Preston
