MORNING MANNA               2-27-26

February 27, 2026 By Pastor David Stone

Death imparts a realization and a permanence to all
the glorious and holy longings of the Christian. The
happiest moment of his life is his last! Then it is
that he feels how precious the privilege, and how
great the eminence—of being a believer in Jesus.

And the day which darkens his eye to all earthly scenes
—opens it upon the untold, and unimaginable, and
ever increasing glories of eternity! It is the birth
day of his immortality!

Jesus, the Conqueror of death, will approach and
place His almighty arms beneath you, and lay your
head upon His loving bosom. Thus encircled and
pillowed, you “shall not see death,” but passing
through its gloomy portal, shall only realize that
you had actually died, from the consciousness of
the joy and glory into which death had ushered
you!- Octavius Winslow

MORNING MANNA                   2-26-26
Stop Expecting It
“But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good—–“ Genesis 50:20

George Eliot wrote, “I’ve been a great deal happier since I have given up thinking about what is easy and pleasant, and being discontented because I couldn’t have my own will. Our life is determined for us; and it makes the mind very free when we give up wishing, and only think of bearing what is lad upon us, and doing what is given us to do.”

 He discovered what most folks never discover. The harder we work trying to make ourselves happy the more miserable we become. It is only when we resign ourselves to do the will of God, in whatever circumstances we find ourselves, that we discover happiness. To overcome anxiety we must accept what God appoints or allows, believing, as tough as it is, that He will use it for some good and His glory. That is the path to peace.

We simply must stop expecting people to beat a path to our door seeking to bless us. Gripe all you want about it being their duty—that doesn’t change anything for the better. We need to think of ourselves as being totally undeserving of anything, only then will we be thankful for everything.

Oh, one more thing—how many paths have you made to the doors of others, seeking to be a blessing? Expect a blessing and you will be disappointed. Be a blessing and you will be blessed—even if others ignore you. True happiness doesn’t depend on what others do or don’t do. It comes from a proper relationship with Christ. That puts happiness within the reach of every chlld of God.- HDS, 3-29-09

MORNING MANNA             2-25-26

February 25, 2026 By Pastor David Stone

,
is to see yourselves near to hell.

You won’t look after the physician of souls,
you won’t prize the physician of souls,
you won’t desire the physician of souls,
you won’t fall in love with the physician of souls,
you won’t resign yourselves to the physician of souls
—until you come to see your wounds, until you come
to feel your diseases, until you see the symptoms,
the plague-sores of divine wrath and displeasure
upon you. As the whole do not need the physician,
so they do not desire, they do not care for the
physician. Acquaint yourselves with your natural
and undone condition.  –By Thomas Brooks, 1660

MORNING MANNA             2-23-26

February 23, 2026 By Pastor David Stone

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬-‭9‬

I and just about every preacher has preached a sermon on the words “But God…”. While every sermon would be a little different, Vance Havner sums his message up like this:

No human merit could earn this blessing; no works of the flesh could purchase this treasure, “for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” (vs. 8).

How blessed to be able to say,

—“Once I was blind, but God touched me.

—Once I was lost, but God found me.

—Once I was under wrath, but God loved me.

—Once I was under guilt, but God forgave me.

—Once I was dead, but God gave me life.

—Once I walked according to the course of this world, but God turned me and now I walk as He walked.

—Once I walked according to the prince of the power of the air, but God

stopped me, and now I follow the Prince of peace.

—Once I had my manner of life in the lusts of the flesh and mind, but God

gave me a new life, and Christ liveth in me.

—Once I was by nature the child of wrath, but God has begotten me into the family of love.”

And all of this is the free gift of grace if one will by faith in God’s Son come to that second birthday, the beginning of a new life that opens with those two precious words: “But God . . .”

MORNING MANNA 2-21-26

MORNING MANNA              2-21-26

Nearly every Christian has heard a preacher quote a small part of this poem by the famous missionary C.T. Studd, but they never read it all. So here it is. I pray it will be food for thought and a blessing to your heart. HDS

ONLY ONE LIFE

Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, twill soon be past,

Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet,
And stand before His Judgement seat;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, the still small voice,
Gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding me selfish aims to leave,
And to God’s holy will to cleave;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, a few brief years,
Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with its clays I must fulfill,
living for self or in His will;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

When this bright world would tempt me sore,
When Satan would a victory score;
When self would seek to have its way,
Then help me Lord with joy to say;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Give me Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e’er the strife,
Pleasing Thee in my daily life;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Oh let my love with fervor burn,
And from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne;
Only one life, “twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say,”Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say “twas worth it all”;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last. ”

— extra stanza —

Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.
And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be,
If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee
